Today during orientation for my ob/gyn rotation, the clerkship director gave us the big speech about how it's a cop-out to just read review books for rotations, and how you really need to read textbooks if you want to learn the material. As a compulsive book-buyer and internet shopper, this, needless to say, appealed to my true nature. Before I go do something ridiculous like buy a $70 ob/gyn textbook that I don't need I thought I'd check to see how many of you actually used or are using a textbook for your ob/gyn rotation.

Don?t waste your time and money with any fancy OB/GYN textbooks for your rotation. I did 2 months of ob rotation and Blueprints was more than enough. I read it couple of times and cruised through the rotation. Now unless you want to do OB/GYN residency than maybe you should get a more comprehensive book which may be useful to you later. Otherwise blueprints is more than enough. Also I was a little compulsive too, and bought FIRST AID FOR OB/GYN too, but never used it.

Beckmann is a pretty good OB/Gyn textbook. I would agree that Blueprints is probably sufficient though. I borrowed Beckman from someone and read some of the high points and areas that I was having trouble with. Also, there are a lot of questions in the back that are pretty good. That's all I studied -- Blueprints and a little bit of Beckman(ended up with a 93 on the exam).
I wouldn't recomment Pretest. I tried Pretest but didn't get much out of it and found out that it was not representative of the questions on the shelf exam.

Textbooks are always a personal choice - for ob/gyn and bought B/prints text, B/prints case studies, and High Yield. At first I used them all, but as time became more of an issue I stuck with High Yield.

Looking back I should have saved myself $60 and just bought High Yield.
