So I need to do a 15-20 minute presentation on a topic of "my choice" and it is our preference whether we want to base it on a case we have seen or not. Welllllllllll, the most interesting cases that have gone on in the last 4 weeks are placental abruption and preclampsia.

Is it worth just doing one of these, most likely preclampsia or can anyone help me pick a topic that will knock my attending out of his booties.

I just feel like its too basic y'know, any help greatly appreciated

For something like a 15min or so presentation I'd say preeclampsia/eclampsia would be good.

Slightly different, but there has been som recent papers on magnesium usage during preterm labor and possible associated decreased cerebral palsy. Last month one of the residents I was with did a presentation on this and there was a good discussion about whether Mg should be used more. Definitely a recent issue that some programs are rethinking their protocols about.

Other things: Management of ectopic preg, uterine bleeding, PROM and PPROM.

Keep in mind the purpose of these is not to knock the socks off your attending. Chances are you aren't really going to tell them anything they don't know. Purpose is for you to learn about the subject and be able to pick out what's important.

just listing a few topics students covered on mine: recurrent pregnancy loss, nutrition in pregnancy, viral infections during pregnancy, infertility, PPH, thromboembolic disease during pregnancy, cervical insufficiency, gestational trophoblastic disease, etc
