I don't know whether you guys will agree with me on this, I think Obamacare will increase the specimen volume and therefore improve the overall pathology job market, although the take home pay of a average pathologist will be less due to the reimbursement cut, and there will be lots of consolidations, small private practice groups will be bought by either large academic centers or one of the megalabs, so there will be less "autonomy" for pathologist.

I think this trend is also true for all specialties, the average pay will be less for physician across all specialties, but the job market for physician will be better. The top 5% earner, however, will not see a decrease in the paycheck, because they only accept private insurance. As Obamacare will probably push more wealthy population into the private insurance market, those top 5% will probably see a moderate increase instead of decrease in their paycheck.

Yea, all the lab consolidation is really going to make the job market better 🙄

The specimen volume increase is a myth. Its a way to make people accept the reimbursement cuts. You have been brainwashed into thinking there will be a huge increase in specimens that will offset the cuts. Yeah right.

According to Obama there will be a decrease in specimens. I remember him telling us that physicians will cut off legs instead of treat diabetes because we get paid more to cut off a leg.👍👍👍

The most disturbing thing that I have heard about Obamacare is that a patient can go three months without paying premiums before the insurance company can cancel their policy BUT the insurance company will not have to pay for services incurred during that period.
