Basically this 8 year old third grader weighs 220 lbs. After working with specialists and dieticians for a year and a half, they determined that the kid's weight and lifestyle constituted neglect and placed him in foster care. What do you all think?

Neglect is one of those areas which can be hard to define and draw a certain line. When do you involve CPS for a frequent flier asthmatic or diabetic who keeps landing in the ICU? There's surprisingly little literature on this topic, so I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Neglect is not always a malevolent act. Sometimes, the parents are just too stupid to handle their child's complicated health issue. My duty is to the most vulnerable person in the situation, and since that is virtually invariably the child, CPS should step in with uncontrolled T1DM and with lifestyle induced obesity.
