M3 between a few fields. Top 2 are OB and Rads
Have no OB research yet-apply in September
Those who matched into OB, was your research mostly case reports? How many should I aim to have?

OB doesn’t really care that much about research on ERAS, I’d focus on rads and if you decide on OB and you have no other red flags (I.e. doing OB cause your application precludes radiology) you can just chalk it up to a change of heart about specialty choice. Anyone who is competitive for radiology will be competitive for OB.

Really? Will 1-2 OB recc letters and then one from IM or Psych possibly be good? Does it matter where the 3rd one is from?

Need at least 2, sometimes need a chairman’s letter; would say the other letter should be from surgery>IM>>>other. Psych would be weird, much like an LOR from an OB for someone applying to psych.

Good call. I do have some inpatient IM preceptors I can ask. Thanks!

Disagree that OB/GYN doesn't care about research. I've had it brought up at interviews probably 60% of the time, but it's a strength on my app. I would try and get on something that is not a case report. Just 1 project is better than none. 2 ob letters are fine if you have 2 strong letters from other specialties. Otherwise I'd do 3 ob and 1 other

I regularly conduct interviews for obgyn and urology and I promise obgyn does not emphasize research, it will not help your application if you have deficiency’s and not having any research won’t hurt you if you are otherwise a good applicant. I’ve even personally fought for applicants with not high board scores or some other issue with their application who have outstanding research credentials because I want to work with those type of residents and have almost always been vetoed. Additionally, if you are considering both radiology and OB it would be foolish to try to get OB research and not radiology research because the latter specialty cares much more about that and even radiology research will be palatable to any OB person reviewing your application but reverse won’t necessarily be true.

If I were to do research to prepare for an OBGYN residency does it need to be related to the field? Would it be pointless to do research regarding health disparities or how the economy/insurance changes impacts patients medication usage

I think that would be pertinent and well-received

Agree with what other have said above. The only suggestion I have is if you are dead set on doing research, you could try to split the difference between radiology and ob/gyn and look for projects related to obstetric ultrasounds. There has been recent research into topics like doing fetal anomaly scans earlier than what is currently recommended.
