hello

I was wondering about the lifestyle of obgyns
they have many emergencies? they are frequently 24-7 stand-by for births or pregnancy complications?
generally an obgyn's life is awfull or just like every other surgical doctor?

what do people who are already obgyns or training to be say?
are there any articles about this matter?

thanks!

The lifestyle is pretty varied. A lot depends on what type of practice you are in. Large group practices may schedule a doctor to be at the hospital. Others manage it by being on call and coming in when a patient needs to be seen. When you are on call, you have to be ready at a moments notice to drive like a bat out of hades to get to your patient. Some like a practice where they are at the hospital for 24 hours straight, but when they are off, they are off. It's busy... otherwise you don't make any money!
Some doctors try to control their time by limiting the number of patients they take that are due in a given month, but that doesn't help with all the emergencies, preterms, ectopics, incomplete abs, etc.
