It seems that if the programs have an objective way to measure us head-to-head (e.g. our step-1 scores), their surgical numbers over the past 5 years, number of peer-reviewed publications/presentations per resident, or percentage who pursue a fellowship should be available to everyone before they apply.

All these threads about program-x vs. program-y is a lot of opinions based on often a little information. Every applicant is spending at least $1000 just to apply an upwards of $8-10k to interview. It would be nice to have more objective data to inform this chaotic process.

I agree with you, and some programs are really good about posting that stuff on their website: CPMC and Cook County to name a few. They list their surgical numbers and their most recent graduate placement.

I think as an applicant, SDN and Ophtho Match Applicants, as scary and anxiety inducing as they can be sometimes, were really helpful because you can piece together information from different threads if you are vigorous about finding out a lot of details about different programs.
I agree though, not even those are up to date in a lot of cases.

But honestly, I think we are lucky because I don't think any other speciality even have a program compendium like ophtho where you can post and find stuff in an organized manner.

I think as someone who is going through the match this year, I take detailed notes after each interview while I'm waiting at airports so I can at least add some updated information for the programs I interviewed at, after the match is over of course. If everyone does at least a few programs that they interviewed at I bet we can all review most programs on here.
