I applied to LSU New Orleans last year and logged about 60 hours volunteering in a hospital's inpatient and outpatient settings. In the end it turned out I had one too many outstanding pre-reqs, so I have to reapply for their Spring 2018 class.

Has anyone has ever "reused" observation hours from a previous cycle? I haven't really been able to get any more hours this year due to school and work, so I'm hoping I'm able to still use my hours from last time. Do schools care if observation hours are a year old?

Some schools don't allow observations hours older than 2 years but they usually mention that on their website. I don't see why you wouldn't use them again since you put the time in. Just make sure that other aspects of your application stronger this time around.

When I applied a second time I used the observation hours I had the previous year. But I also accumulated new ones during that time in between from new locations.

Like KeshireKat mentioned, your experience still stand unless there is constraint specified by the programs. Update your application as much as you can. The director at my school shared how he disliked applicants that cut and paste the personal statement for reapplicants. Articulate the growth demonstrated the past year (though you aren't limited to just that one year).
