I'm currently a rising 2nd year at a medical school in the UK. I'm interested in shadowing some doctors in the US in order to get some experience in the field i might be interested in but also because I plan on applying to the US for residency later on.

Whats a good way to approach people i don't know for shadowing. Will just sending emails to a lot of physicians work? Will they be willing to take me on and for how long? I'm looking at the north-east because I will be able to drive there (staying in Canada over the winter break). I also prefer a teaching hospital if possible.

Its hard to think of a reason why any doctor would want to take on a medical student from so far away for no good reason. Will it be difficult to find someone willing to take me on?

Most physicians would welcome this, I think. Realize that the extent of what you're allowed to do will be limited due to liability, but shadowing is definitely ok.

Write a formal email explaining your situation, why you want to shadow here, and I'm sure someone will likely help.
