Hi - I am in a MSc Clinical Psych program and I'm applying to PhD programs this year.
Earlier today, I expressed my personal statements and now I'm obsessing about one of them.
The page limit was 2 pages DS and we were instructed to "state your [our] primary and secondary interests".
I had written a 1500 word personal statement for another school, and I decided to use the same opening paragraph, because I thought it was so compelling. Consequently, I had limited space left....Next, I briefly described that I graduated with distinction from undergrad, I am in a MSc program, my career plans, I am interested in pursuing doctoral studies for x & y, and how I am currently completing a practicum in an outpatient clinic. Following this, I described my undergrad and master's theses, the future directions I'd like to take my research, and indicated 2 faculty members congruent with my interests.
Yet it suddenly occurred to me that I didn't mention my other research and volunteer experience...
....For example, I volunteered at a crisis line both as a phone operator and training assistant. I also volunteered in a research lab. It also dawned on me that I could have used 11pt font and fitted another paragraph!
Aagh, now I'm wondering if I blew it? Although a CV was not required, I included it in my application (My CV states these past research & volunteer experiences)...but will they even read it then? I'm also worried, because I recently read on the forum that it is not a good idea to state 2 completely different research interests...
