Hello all,
I have a question regarding licensure after dental school. In my state that I currently reside, we take the NERB clinical exam and I am assuming we get a license to practice in that particular state. Say, however, I want to move to a different state (that also accepts the NERB), what would the process be like to get a license to practice in that state? Is it difficult and how much money would that take?
Thank you!

Each state is different and has it's own rules to acquire a license. Go to the website for the particular state's board of dentistry and that will show you what is required and what it costs.

Typically if that state you're looking to practice in is covered by the same regional board exam you passed, then all you need to do is fill out the appropriate forms from the department of public health in that new state, provide them with the appropriate documentation they require for licensure and then it's just the matter of making sure your check clears for whatever the license fee is in that new state. You won't receive any fee reduction say if you still have 6 months left on your license in the 1st state. So checking to see what the license renewal policy is in that new state before applying isn't a bad idea.

For example, in CT where I practice, the annual license renewal is in the month of one's birthday. So for me with a Novemver birthday, if I was looking to move to CT to practice and it was say September, I'd probably try and hold off until November and avoid having to pay the extra $550 or so that my CT dental license is in September and then again 2 months later in November
