Is it possible to obtain the prompts for secondaries (legally of course) for next year's upcoming application cycle? I'm taking a gap year this year, and say I want to apply to 50 or so medical schools next year, I'd like it if I could get writing my secondaries now instead of waiting until May.

Do schools pretty much just reuse their secondaries from year to year?

You can get this year's essays from the school specific application threads. Most of them won't change between this year and next, and of the few that do, many will be similar to this year's. You may end up having to rewrite a few, but that's the risk you run by pre-writing them.

One recommendation I have (which you can take or leave) is to not start writing them until maybe next February or March. The reason why is you could potentially have a lot of stuff happen during the upcoming months (cool stuff that could help your essays) that you would want to either include or at least reference in your essays.
