I dont get it. Aren't acids ranked by their conjugate bases? If so then if I were to deprotonate alkyne wouldn't that be the most basic of them all making it the weakest acid?

yep! anion of alkyne more stable because its hydridization has greater percentage of s character 50% s and 50% p. then alkene comes next. its sp2 hydrbidization, so 66% p and 33% s. then alknae which is sp3 hybridization, so 25%s and, 75% p.

keep in mind that i am deprotonating these but i dont know what the anions of each are called so im just saying alkene alkyne etc, when i actually mean the anion of that after i strip off a hydrogen. anyways hope this helps!

Alkyne can actually form a more stable anion because the triple bond is electron withdrawing, so it is the strongest acid (i.e., most easily deprotonated)

yes you are correct but I don't think you answered his question though haha. Since alkyne when deprotonated is the most stable out of those 3, it will be the weakest base, thus the strongest acid.

Remember deprotonated alkanes are HIGHLY unstable and reactive! So it's a stronger base than alkynes
 
oh whoops! i thought i did write that out! i was thinking abt the stability in my head and understood how it related to acidity, but didnt explicitly write it out when i thought i did. my bad and thanks for catching! but yes the weaker your base, then stronger the conjugate acid! so thats why alkynes deprotonated version is a weaker base so in turn the alkyne is the storngest acid.
