Realistically, my pre-reqs look as follows:

Spring 2014:
Chem I
Biological Psych
Sociology

Summer 2014:
Chem II
Astronomy (Physics Dept)

Fall 2014:
Ochem
Ochem 1 Lab
Bio 1
Intro to Pysics 1

Spring 2015:
Ochem II
Ochem II Lam
Bio 2
Intro to Physics II

Summer 2015:
Biochemistry
Genetics

Fall 2015:
Study for the new MCAT

I a volunteering and completing clinical research as well. How much would you all advice for or against taking OChem, Bio, and Physics together? And would you recommend taking an extra semester ( Fall 2015) in order to stretch out my classes to complete? Have you found this difficult to get straight As?

Any advice is appreciated, especially for those who have gone this a similar course sequence.

I am taking three classes right now with two of them being orgo and physics with labs while working full time. It's doable if you put your mind to it. The key is to do well.

Why are you taking Astronomy? Useless. Otherwise, schedule looks good. You also do not need genetics.

OP,

You need to spend about 10 hours a week outside of the classroom for Orgo. Physics and Bio can be hard or easy depending on your background and your professor. But, you can probably expect about another 10 hours a week for those two classes combined. It's not bad if you prioritize your educational goals at this moment over other things in life. Personally, I spent on average about 3-5 hours a week on Physics I for just doing homework and lab reports. I barely do any extensive readings on the topic bc of my strong mathematical foundation. I recommend taking the Physics series that's algebra based. If you are taking the one that's calculus based, all bets are off.

I'm taking Orgo I from UNE right now. I'm on schedule to finish the semester course in 7 weeks. For this class, I spend on average 3-5 hours a day Mon-Fri. On the weekend, I spent on average about 6-8 hours a day. Beside my studying, I don't do much except my full time job and the gym.

I don't recommend this schedule for everyone. Honestly, the only reason that I can pull this off because of the sacrifices made by my wife and kids.

It's all about your priorities and your determination at the end of the day.

BTW, I took both Microbiology and Anatomy&Physiology I last quarter despite a lot of warnings from a lot of people. I spent on average about 10 hours a week for both classes outside the classroom. I got As in both.

Your schedule isn't that bad.

Yeah, that sounds good. I don't have a part time job (yet) so I won't worry about other commitments. Also, I know Astronomy is "useless" in the sense that it wont be needed for the MCAT at all. I just have always been interested in the subject matter. Also, from my understanding, it still counts as a Physics class in your BCMP if it is listed under the Physics department.

What classes would you guys recommend me taking this summer though instead of Astronomy? I already took Stats back in my freshman year of undergrad, but it could help to brush up on. But I couldn't really think of anything else at this point in time

I recommend taking one of you intro bio/physics courses in the summer instead of astronomy. That class can wait. You have a purpose right now, and you should only take classes leading to that endpoint. Anything else is a waste of time, money, and resources.

You have had plenty of replies regarding your schedule so I will discuss something else. The astronomy class!

I took astronomy from the physics department as well as an elective. I did this because astronomy is super interesting and some of the math involved with astronomy just makes your eyes widen in amazement at the universe we live in! I totally geeked out in astronomy class, it was really fun! Nothing wrong with taking some electives that are not exactly needed, I even took a painting elective. Do I need that for med school? Ummm.......no lol. It was fun though, something different and I learned a new skill.

EDIT: Do not put electives like astronomy over the required courses. Stay focused, but when you need to lighten the term load throw in an elective you want to take for the fun of it.
