Hey everyone,
I'm currently in the process of ordering my textbooks for Autumn quarter and I had a question about my organic chem book options.

The publishers are selling a bundle pack which has the textbook (6th ed), OWL eBook, solutions manual, and a study guide all for $150, and we have a coupon code for an additional 10% off. Which is an amazing deal compared to the usual ~$500 for everything.

The only problem is that the textbook is "looseleaf" and the study guide and solutions manual are online. I prefer hardback books, and I like having material in front of me to study (so that I can take it anywhere and not get distracted by SDN, Facebook, ect.)

Should I take the offer that has been given to me? or should I just fork out the extra money for the hardback text and manuals?

Anyone have experience with the online/paperback alternatives? any suggestions?

Thanks!

Whoa, $500? where did that number come from? I'm not sure what kind of textbook you use but I would imagine most texts would be around 150~200 new, and about 50~70 for the solutions.
Unless you have a major issue with used books, I really would reconsider, since if you buy used you could get anywhere from 20~50% off the original price. Plus a hardback will look much better in your bookcase. 😉
I personally find study-guides useless, but if you've had success with it before, it's your choice. But I would just get the text and solutions manual used from some place like amazon, textbookx, alibris, etc.

$209 for the hardback book from amazon.com, seems to be the same price at campus bookstore, both new and used.
$115 for solutions manual (paperback)
$70 for OWL online homework/problem software.

With tax, it's over $400.

My textbook was ~$180 and the solution manual was ~$85...

you cant sell looseleaf back to bookstore, but u can resell it to people on craiglist
one of the other advantage is that you can take pages out of looseleaf and put in a smaller folder, so you dont carry the whole things with u all the time, just the pages you need.
