If you are talking about Destroyer 2010 then question 134 is just a simple reduction by LiAlH4. This reducing agent reduces carboxy acids, esters, and carbonyl's, unlike NaBH4 which does not reduce esters or carboxy acids. Hope this helps!

well the simple answer is that in this case with hydrogen bonding molecules the solubility is enhanced if the positive portion (hydrogen) is made more positive or the negative portion (electronegative atom its bonding too) is made more negative...hence carboxylic acid is more soluble in water.

not sure if thats what theyre looking for because youre talking about dimerization and whatnot but thats the simple answer from just looking at the question.
