Hi everyone.

I could use anyone's advice on how to study for organic chem. I barely made it through my organic 1 & 2 classes with low B's. I have basically forgotten everything since then it seems. I try to read the Kaplan Ochem section, but it's like reading another language. One or two pages and I want to shoot myself.

Please someone tell me how I can get through the DAT with just a 15 on the Ochem. I can do well on all the other sections to make up for it. I am very good in everything but Ochem.

Any past experiences, books, flash cards, anything!!!

OK, tell me how to make 16 then, lol

i think its first time on SDN that somebody actually asked advice for scoring a 16 on something , i'll tell u this : it takes A LOT of effort
no joking aside, just do kaplan and u'll be fine. Read it and re-read it until u start seeing some trends it'll get easier

Yeah, well I am completely ******ed when it comes to Ochem. I am seriously considering abandoning my dental school plans because if I can't do Ochem, I probably can't do dental school.

you'll never see O.Chem in dental school from what i've heard, maybe some in biochem....if u dont get it, try memorizing

I'm totally in the same boat youre in. I have no clue what ochem is about. I'm hoping for around a 17-18 although I wouldn't mind if I scored higher 🙂
Don't abandon your dreams just because you don't understand this one stinky topic. Nothing comes easily in life and you're going to run into a lot of stumbling blocks like ochem while in dental school. Just hang in there and try really hard, and you'll pull through.

I got a 25 on ochem and my advice is practice, practice, practice. Kaplan's ochem section in their DAT book is great, pretty much all you need. Study that **** like someone's got your mom in a chokehold and the only way to make them let go is too ace it. You may forget it all in a month, but that's ok if you remember it for the test. Take no prisoners.

And dont forget, you DID get B's when you took ochem in school. If you did it then, you can do it now. If a B in ochem at your school was anything like a B at my school, you knew a whole lot more than you'll need to know for the DAT. Don't give up, you'll kick yourself later, you can do it, you already did it once.

Hi, are you talking about the DAT Lesson Book or the DAT Review Notes?

I mostly used my notes to study for OChem.

However, I have encountered a few additional study materials that may be of use.

http://www.chemistry.ohio-state.edu/organic/flashcards/
http://www.chemhelper.com/

Also, OrgoCards might be of some help for those that like flash cards. (I think you can order them from Barnes and Noble or Amazon.)

If you have the Kaplan Blue book down, you should do well on the O Chem section.
Good Luck!

Dude, I got C's in Orgo and I got a 21 on the DAT orgo. So, you can do it! Trust me, studying from the kaplan book is much easier than listening to a boring professor anyday.

well u can start by telling us what are you weak points and what is it about orgo that you don't get.

I wouldn't use class notes, everything you need to know is in Kaplan. If you want to understand SN1/SN2, E1/E2 really well then buy the Klein book I referred to in your dat score thread, for extra practice use EK 1001 questions in ochem. If all else fails start memorizing every detail of Kaplan's ochem section.

Has anyone used Cliff's Quick Review of Ochem? I have used the Bio book, and it is very easy to read.

I ate a cliff bar at lunch. there is no quick and easy fix. You have to put in the time, thats it.
