Hi All,
I completed OChem I fall 2006 and will be taking OChem II this spring. I had to work real hard to get an A- in Ochem I. I expeect OChem II to be similar to OChem I. Anyone has any tips on how to do well in II?
Thanks!

Keep doing what you've been doing, it seems to be effective! I just finished OChem II in December.

I read every chapter, went to nearly every lecture, and did tons of problems...

The worst part for me was the 6 hours of lab and all the BS lab reports and formal lab reports we had to do.

Reading the book really helped me. There's so much to remember, I found that reading up on the mechanisms is the best way to remember the reactions, trying to memorize them all is not practical, especially for OChem II

Take the same teacher at the same institution! This is the best thing you can do.

Thank you all!
I did switch professors because I did not like the one I had for Ochem I. He went way too fast and was kinda' arrogant when I asked him questions. I hope I will have better luck with Ochem II.

O. Chem is voodoo witchcraft. Sacrifice a chicken.

It basically builds on the basic mechanisms you got in O.Chem 1, but the memorization quotient goes up. I would have been dead had we not taken the ACS exam as our final.

Thank you all!

You are screwed:laugh:

Yep, ours was VERY heavy on reading unknowns and ID'ing them...and knowing reactions...not just memorizing them...

I took the same guy I had Org. I with, and it helped a lot.

You'll be fine. You got an A in Orgo I so that's a good predictor you'll do well in Orgo II.

You'll know what you have to do when class-time rolls around.

Ochem II is all mechism memorization.

I'll be using this book to help ...
