I'm worried I screwed over big time. I'm currently applying for this VMCAS cycle. I took survey organic chemistry in undergrad because it was required for my degree and taking OChem 1 wasn't a priority then. Given the two options, I took the lower workload course.

Now I'm worried it's going to bite me in the butt since most schools I've been wanting to apply to (e.g., Mizzou, Kansas, Iowa) require OChem plus a lab. However, my school only let's people who took OChem 1 to take the lab. I'm already from a disadvantaged background trying to apply in the first place (I've been saving since at least 2018 to apply this year), and I really don't want to spend upwards of $3000 just to take OChem 1 and lab. But I'm not sure which schools will allow Survey organic except for LSU. Did I ruin my chances?

I don't think anyone here can give you an answer. Best is to contact admissions of the schools you are interested in and ask if they will accept that course. You'll probably have to show them a syllabus or something for that course for them to determine this. If not, I'm afraid the only way is probably to take an o chem course. You could look into your community colleges to see if they offer an O Chem course, which price tag wise should be more affordable than other schools. Here's an online course that I found for it (Organic Chemistry I). Just make sure schools you are applying to would accept the community college or online credits. I know some schools do not require an organic chemistry lab in addition to the course. For example, UW-Madison does not require an O-chem lab, just an o-chem course (Required Undergraduate Coursework - University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine). Could help you save the cost of taking an o-chem lab that way. Based on this prerequisite chart (from 2020 so double check it still applies for this upcoming app cycle), it seems like some states-side schools do not require o-chem at all, which can help you choose schools to apply to (https://www.aavmc.org/assets/Site_18/files/VMCAS/2021 VMCAS docs/prereqchart FINAL-For Website 2.13.20.pdf).

Really sorry about your predicament. Best of luck and I hope it works out for you.
