ochem nomenclature need advice

ok, I know how to name basic stuffs like alcohol, aldehyde, ketone, amide alkane, alkene, alkyne and carboxylic acid using suffix. But I am not sure how detail we have to know in terms of prefix??? Did you guys have difficult solving nomenclature in ochem section of the DAT????
