Hi everyone I was wondering if you can help a brotha name these compounds. It's for extra credit and I have been trying to figure out the proper name. Holla bacc.
Hmmm..... These would seem to be substituted fluorene compounds. Here's a good web site.
It's different substitutions on the 9 carbon of fluorene, but with a double bond.
So, this is just a guess, really, but here goes in order:
1,1-dimethyl-2-fluorenylethene
1-cyclohexyl-2-fluorenylethene
1-cyclopentyl-2-fluorenylethene
1-ethyl-2-fluorenyl-1-methylethene
There's no stereo consideration for any of them because no chiral carbons and the fluorene is symmetrical.
I found a better base molecule: fluorenylidene.
So, for the first compound, we have:
dimethylfluorenylidene
etc.
But this is some tricky nomenclature, so again it's just a guess.
