Can you please clarify this for me:

a reducing agent is needed to convert a nitrile into a primary amine.

Shouldnt this be an oxidating agent?

destroyer gives an example of LiAlH4 1st as a reducer and then as a reducing agents!!

I think i am still confused on this whole "AGENT" thing..

This is correct. A reducing agent becomes oxidized. Adding a reducing agent to a nitrile oxidizes the reducing agent and reduces the nitrile (into a primary amine)
