I am at a state university going for pharmacy and now i have decided to go for a bachelors in biology and attend either med,dental,pod school. Right now my focus is going towards podiatry. I live not even 10 minutes from the new location of OCPM in Independence,Ohio. It would be easy for me to drive their and i would save alot of money living at home. Ive always been interested in sports medicine and medicine as a whole and this seems like a great way for me to take my interests and make them whole. Does anyone know what the admissions statistics are for OCPM?(gpa,science gpa,mcat) and does anyone know how many people apply?( i heard about 350 last year) and how many people do they take every year? right now i have about a 3.4gpa but i have yet to take organic or physics which i will take next year. i plan on also finishing up and getting my bach degree anyways even though i know OCPM doesnt require a bach degree. and if anyone knows how much tuition is id apprecaite it. thank you

I was there a few weeks ago, and I believe they said that they're looking to take about 120 students. Tution was around $24,000 (maybe a little less), and as far as GPAs go, yours sounds fine! Thats about where I was when I applied,and I got accepted. I think that you have to have over a 3.0 to be considered for admission. The faculty and staff were VERY friendly. I'm sure if you wanted a tour or to talk to someone, they would me more than willing to allow that. 🙂

Good point but I have heard from an OCPM that they lose about 40 of those students along the way so that lowers their class size.

You're right, but I think OCPM is accredited to accept about that many^

The Ohio class sizes have about doubled over the last few years. That and AZ's beginning to graduate students have increased national graduating class sizes quite a bit. AZ will certainly now increase incoming class sizes now that they're accredited also. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the grad:residency solutions...

That is definitely true. I know my class lost a good amount of people. I don't know how many off hand. I believe we started with a little over 100, and are down to about 80 (give or take)

when you say 'lost', does that mean they dropped or they were put in the 5 yr plan?

Some dropped out, some got put on the 5 year plan, some chose to be put on the 5 year plan.

I do not agree with ocpm on this issue. I know traditionally that 40 students may drop out for one reason or another but, students seem to be getting better and what if only 15 of those students drop in the next few years. Also, I think that class sizes are now limited to to the accredited size including the students that return for leave, 5 year plan, or just failed.

the issue that their ability to handle a capacity of about 100 students is sufficient? the issue that attrition for pod is just high in general, and given the proportions, OCPM seems to have a high rate? i don't understand what you disagree with. if it is the fact that they take so many, ocpm is not alone. arizona will increase numbers, the new california school will increase the numbers. as podiatry gets a little more popular, supply will likely start meeting demand. i am hearing buzz that ocpm is actually turning students away! it is happening. the problem of residencies will work out over the next few years. we are going through some growing pains, but i think as challenges are presented, they will eventually be met. having said that, i am glad to be in the position of not having to worry about not getting a residency spot!

The fact that they are accepting a high number of applicants because they predict at least 40 will drop. If you are right and ocpm is turning applicants away then it stands to reason that the students are getting better and they will not have such a high attrition. Just because the other schools are increasing numbers doesn't make it right. If this continues you or I may not need to worry but, some will.I hope the residency issue"works out" and you are right.
