i recently matched into a program that only has 1 plastics doc who isn't really in the "academic realm" of things and i was wondering all all my shots at going for a plastics fellowship impossible now? or are there places that i can do research with even if it's not my program per se? any advice/help would be much appreciated! thanks!! 🙂

There are many things that go into what "your chances are" for getting a plastics spot. Most important is what program are you at and who is your attending. Then, who do the attendings at you program know. And, of course, how well you do in residency. There are often "in town" plastics staff that may be able to help you as well. I think it would be difficult to try and set something up at an outside institution.

if the local guy is very well respected in the national oculoplastics community then you have a very good chance. I was in a similar situation. I have worked with multiple people. shred dog is correct. its all about who you know and work with (letters and calls).
private email me if you want to get more details etc.
