Ok, I recently discovered this place and have been lurking for the past few days. Just thought I'd pose a question to anybody that's paying attention. I just submitted my apps (just under the wire, how's that for procrastinating?) to 7 schools (WSU, UCDavis, CSU, Wisconsin, Michigan, Glasgow, and Massey). What do you think are the odds of getting in somewhere... good, bad, or indifferent?

Things I think will hurt my odds:
I am out of state everywhere (from Alaska)
I graduated in '06 and haven't exactly been moving in a straight line since
GRE analytical writing score = 3.5
My personal statement probably sucks
Don't have loads of vet experience

Things I think will help my odds:
GPA 3.93 with lots of math and hard sciences
GRE v 770 q 750 (99th and 83rd percentiles)
I have a fair amount of animal and community experience (animal shelter volunteer, was shepherd, shearer and midwife of my family's 20 sheep, am on the board of directors of our local kennel club, and have trained/competed in a lot of AKC performance events with my dogs).

And to top off the negatives, my vet LOR was submitted 1.5 hours after the deadline and the chief animal control officer of the shelter I volunteered at for over a year went on vacation without doing her LOR so I had to get someone else to do one at the last minute.

I would appreciate people's thoughts.

Stupid question... but do you actually have any veterinary experience, or just animal experience?

I have been volunteering/vet shadowing 40 hours a week for around 4 weeks.
Volunteering at the animal shelter didn't involve vets.

It's hard to predict your odds! The vet experience is lacking, and that eLOR thing really sucks, but your GPA and GRE are awesome. I think (in my opinion) that you will probably get an interview or two. Then you can go from there.

I like the corgi, btw. 🙂

Thanks for the input!
That's Fergus, he's creeping up the dogwalk, waiting for it to tip like a teeter (his most dreaded obstacle)...

how'd you train the teeter? I might have some suggestions for improving drive on it!

I want teeter tips!!!😀
