oh cool. i tried looking for a pre-opt on odwire before.

Don't quote me on this, but I think people may be more cynical & less inviting to newbies on ODwire, from what I've heard.
More cynical than SDN? Thats unpossible!!

I registered maybe 5 years ago and posted a few times, but was then kicked out curtly because I was pre-opt
👎. I vowed not to consider rejoining until I get into OD school. SDN does the job for now. I doubt i'll even have time for odwire.

It seems to be the same bickering except now it's more "commercial vs. private practice." Optometrists are such drama queens!!

HaHa, nope. Not right now. I guess I worded it weird. I meant I would spend the time over there answering questions than here. 😱
To be part of the "group" 😉 you have to commit to private practice, not give into low ball insurances, charge decent fees, practice full scope, and not be a weenie.

I encourage those who are seriously considering optometry as a career to register as a pre-opt on ODwire. There's thousands of optometrists there and lots of them have been in the business for 30-40+ years and are happy to share their experiences. There's only one or two ODs on this forum that have more than ten years experience and I think you'll find that those who have over a decade of experience have a better perspective and will be more helpful. Post year 2000 grads seem to have a more one-sided perspective, which is understandable, but not necessarily an accurate gauge when all things are considered.
I have a been a member for a few years and there are only a handful of (bitter) ODs that actually post. Just like SDN, their goal is for every pre-optometry and optometry student to drop out of school or leave optometry because the market is oversaturated. I can probably name all the posters that post on there on my two hands. I highly discourage this website for accurate information. If you want a dose of a reality, go shadow the ODs in your community, talk to frame/CLS reps, etc... Talk to real ODs instead of the virtual ones with no patients typing away on ODwire.

You know the reality? I have a residency trained, personable great OD friend who can't find stable work in a 1.7 million population area.
