I am doing my second four week clerkship in gas. I did my first in Maine and my second at Mayo In MN (both visiting externships). I would not do more than 2 and I think one would give you a great idea if you want to pursue gas. I think it does help if you visit a program you are interested in applying to. I met with the program director here this week and he said it was to an applicants advantage to visit (if you do a good job). When I was looking around many programs offer advanced anesthesiology rotations only to their own students. I feel like Mayo has done agreat job in letting me get more involved in cases, based on my previous rotation and experience. One more tidbit apply early for clerkships Mayo and the CDleveland clinic have early apllication deadlines, so start researching soon. Hope this helps!
