# of Community Service Activities in Application

Hey,

Applying into derm and it says that the average number of community service activities is 10. What exactly does that mean? You showed up to a different volunteer clinic 10 times? I find it hard to beleive that people would have 10 different active, long-term community service commitments during medical school. Lots of community service options available here in California, but I was just curious.

Doesn't that mean they just had 10 inputs within their app for that section? That doesn't mean they're all long-term, meaningful volunteer experiences. I'd say most are fluff at best.

I think some people may just copy and paste their experiences directly from their CV without editing. My advisors told me that my "experiences" should tell a story about me and only significant things should be on there. I thus do not have any previous work experiences listed despite having worked two jobs previously. Some of my volunteering opportunities are not listed either because they were clubs in undergrad that I do not think tell you anything more about me than my current commitments.
