As a private practice owner, approximately what % of gross hygiene production do you expect to retain?

Or are the hygienist salaries and materials used already factored into that 55-65% average practice overhead?

So if I have, say, $500,000 in doctor production and $100,000 in hygiene production, I should be looking at a total of $600k production...and assuming my collections are in the upper 90%'s, one would aim to have 55-65% overhead of this total amount?

sorry if it doesn't make sense the way I phrased it.

According to my accountant who specializes in Dental practices, hygiene production should be like this:

1/3=Hygienist Salary
1/3=overhead
1/3= for the dentist

If the hygienist is getting more than 1/3 of what she produces, you are losing money. BTW, I love my hygienist. We have a great relationship. I pay her well and take care of her with bonuses and other extras, she takes care of business and works her butt off.

Which is really the ultimate key. Those that are treated well will work harder and have a greater level of loyalty to the patients, the dentist, AND the business. All that equals greater revenue.
