I think it may be useful to compile a list of the percentage of interviewees schools accept. This will give people a good idea of there chances should they get an interview at any given school. I'll start:

University of Chicago: 18.9%
Penn State: 14.9%

I got these from the schools websites....but if any of you have the MSAR or something that would be awesome.

I think those numbers are a bit low. To fill a class, most schools will offer acceptances to 30-35% of the interviewees. Those percentges you gave are most likely the percentage offered a first round acceptances and don't have to wait to get off a waitlist.

Hi Zeke,

Your numbers seem a little low. I think you might be calculating a % for number of interviewed who actually end up at the school.

Pritzker's website says they interviewed nearly 550 and the entering class was 104. That's your 18.9%, I think.

Schools offer admission to more students than actually matriculate though. Pritzker probably offered a spot to at least 140 people, and maybe even upwards of 180.

The ratio you're looking for is probably closer to 25%-30%, which fits with the numbers I've seen from other schools. Schools are more reluctant to give out the number of admissions offers they gave out, though, so it's kind of guesswork.

Columbia, will have a lower ratio, as has been pointed out many times. They interview nearly half their applicants, but then offer admission to 1 in 6 or so (they actually have a rule that they can, at most, interview as many people as it would take to accept 1 out 7 and have a full class).

Pritzker interviewed 492 and accepted 257 for a class of 104. So the actual number is over 50% for them.

Also, remember that for most schools there is a slow and steady stream of people who are withdrawing their application, pulling themselves off the waitlist, etc. so the "true" number will be higher than the calculated one (although not by too much).

Slow night in the ER. Here is all the info from USNews for 2002 sans Osteopathic schools and schools that did not share stats. This should give you a basic idea of how many people are accepted that interview, but if a school favors in-state applicants you need to take that into account. Take this for whatever it is worth to you.

not to beat a dead horse, but I think it's safe to say that most schools accept 2-3x the number of candidates that they plan to have actually matriculate
