# of interviews for a DO

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
according to the stats ranking 6 places is enough to be more likely than not to match (incidentally I ranked 6 places), however most people would suggest interviewing at about 10. really you can do less and more is expensive and tiring. I did feel very worried with only ranking 6 places (interviewed at more though) and for peace of mind would recommend more.

Depends on where you are interviewing. Any "reaches"? Definitely not enough.
I didn't match when I ranked 7 places, but some of those places were pretty prestigious/reach programs in hindsight. I believe that I would have matched if I had interviewed at just a few more places since some of those middle of the road places I cancelled interviews at courted me the next year. :smack: You do have a good chance of matching with just 6, but since the costs of not matching are so great, I would recommend adding at least 2-3 more just to be on the safe side.

It's just so hard to tell. I was a mediocre candidate, stats wise, very average, but wound up matching at my #1, despite going on 15 interviews and ranking 13.

Friends of mine matched at their #2 or 3 places even though they had better stats than me...so go figure.

I would personally rank at least 8-10 if you can, but according to the stats you SHOULD be safe with 6-7. But, it's really very hard to tell and very dependent on what your ranks are and who you are.

I have 6 now, I guess I shouldn't discount getting more offers in the coming weeks. There are still 30 schools I haven't heard from.

You think 6 interviews for a thoroughly average DO is enough?

depends on where they were, and what kind of vibe you got there....in some cases, 3 is more than enough....

what I mean by this is if you are a decent american grad with no red flags and interview at...say...University of Kentucky because your fiance works there and thats where you really want to end up, there is a > 90% chance you will match there.

Yeah, this about the boat I was in this time last year. You'll wind up with at least 20 offers, I'd bet. You'll be canceling left and right before you know it.

Depends where you are interviewing, depends whether you are a strong candidate, etc.
For someone else to tell you "I ranked at my #1" doesn't really mean anything. It could just mean they aimed pretty low but managed to convince themselves after the fact that they contrary to fact had aimed pretty high.

I would do at least 10. Match is getting more and more competitive.
