3.48 gpa (3.31 sci), 32M MCAT (retake from a 29M last year)
MN resident, re-applicant. Good PS, decent activities.
I am applying to 23 schools this year. What are my odds? I see from the stats that scores in my range are 55% acceptance, but how many schools do people apply to? Is 23 a large number of schools or should I add more given my stats?

I think which schools you apply to is a far more important factor than the number of schools. I think that most people apply to around 10-15 schools, but many people do apply to 20+. Just make sure you apply to schools that are near your stat range.

Thanks for the reply. From the stats I have seen, aside from ivy league schools, you are talking little more than a ~2 point MCAT and ~.3 gpa difference in the average class profile for most MD schools (at least the data I've seen) and so I thought it would be more about how many schools rather than which ones, assuming you aren't throwing money at Harvard with 3.0, 25 scores

1. OP, mind posting a list of the schools you're applying to?

2. You sure this isn't just SDN people??? I haven't heard of many people applying to more than ten schools outside of SDN.

Good job on gaining some points on that MCAT! Seeing as you're a re-applicant, what have you done to improve your application? This is a big question that ADCOMs want an answer for.

Also, it's better to apply to too many schools and get an acceptance than apply to too little and get another rejection...

Good luck!
