Took a few days off and and went riding through the Smoking Mountains on our BMW's and Hondas.
One plastic surgeon, one FP, one CEO, one VP, one engineer, one podiatrist, and me...we did 900 miles in 2 and a half days.
That part of the country has some of most beautiful scenery and TWISTY roads anywhere....if it weren't for the law enforcement and cars, it would have been a PERFECT weekend.
We took turns leading, so we all had the chance to set the pace. We usually let the plastic guy lead on his gold wing......this guy has GUTS...sparks coming off his engine guards almost every corner. I had to WORK on my K1200S to keep up with him
On one road, I decided to take the lead, and I wanted to leave everyone behind, so I tucked down, and dialed it up a couple of notches.......and I swear, I almost got arrested.
my riding partners have disappeared behind me...I was hitting the groove....but, as always,I come up on some slower traffic in a left hander, I go ahead and roll on MORE throttle and pass....as I'm right next to the Harley, I see a "slow"/"construction" sign...and a "10 mph" sign.
I thought "too late", I'm half way through already, so I roll on more throttle to get through (I think I hit 90)...then the the next thing that I remember is I'm face to face with a COP car
....
I get back in my lane, but too late.
His blue lights come on and he's hitting his brakes....
This is a 2 lane country road.....there's really no place to stop or turn around for miles...so I stop a couple of miles down the road and waited....my buds rode by laughing at me.
I waited ...waited...and waited....the dude NEVER came for me!!!!!
I guess he decided it was too much of a hassle to turn around and get me!!!!!
So...the moral of the story....
It is much better to be lucky then to be good.
