I am interested in starting to offer PrEP to patients but I have little experience with it. I'm in an area where there are very few ID doctors around to take care of patients and have had patients ask me about it. Can anyone suggest CME programs were I can learn to manage patients that would like PrEP?

PrEP is stupidly easy. Seriously. It's way way way easier than routine HIV care and even easier than PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis). You definitely don't have to be ID to offer it.

The hardest part of PrEP, for me at least, is getting patients to admit that they need it. I have had a number of patients who really should be on it (one patient with acute Hepatitis B, another patient with active Hepatitis C, a number of IV drug users, etc.) but don't want to take it for whatever reason.

And while the rectal and pharyngeal swabs for gonorrhea and chlamydia can be a tough sell, I would still recommend it. I've had several patients with a positive rectal swab for GC/CT, but negative urine.

There is an app for that

Ditto everyone else above.
I didn’t prescribe much during residency but am doing it somewhat regularly now. Was super easy to look up the basics and go from there. Although now you can use Discovy, Truvada is still recommended as first choice, so it’s pretty straight forward.

Yeah, it's not difficult once you know what to do, but take the time to read those resources so you do it right.

Somewhat related and maybe pertinent to someone reading this thread, please make sure you take sexual history to include types of intercourse and test at risk individuals engaging in penile oral/anal receptive intercourse by swabbing these orifices as well.
