Sorry to hear that... Is that for the MSTP or both MD/MSTP? Don't worry though, I am sure at this point most of us have got the ax at least once. I'm sure great things are in the way for you, including that Baylor interview coming oh-so-soon :)

I can join the WashU boat. I got hammered a bit by the committee and I don't think it went as well as it could have.

I was rejected from the MSTP pre-interview, and my file is up for review by the MD committee. See you on Friday at Baylor!

The same thing happened to me. Don't worry about it too much... The hardest part of an early WashU rejection is listening to everyone else talk about how pampered they were there!

Same thing happened to me 7 years ago as well. I interviewed early and all 6 of us who interviewed there on that day got rejected. I know that one group that interviewed there later in the application process all got accepted. Maybe WashU doesn't like to hand out many acceptances early in the game (that basically shrinks down the number of people they accept later in the game). Just a thought.

That seems a bit weird though. Usually interviewing early is a benefit ...
I think they also took a lot of people from the interview session before ours, which may have screwed our session a bit.

I understand where you're coming from and agree that at many places interviewing early truly is a benefit. My thinking though was this. Who gets interviewed early? They tend to be those who got interview offers early. Which means that they got their applications submitted and reviewed early. Early interviews may not necessarily reflect who are the best candidates but it certainly rewards qualified candidates who are motivated and on top of things. A significant proportion of applicants do apply early given the hype you all hear before the application season begins; hence, it is likely that qualified candidates are enriched in this pool. However, I'm sure there are lots of stellar applicants who apply later and get interviewed later.

Now, if WashU (an institution without a wait-list and where most of the accepted students matriculate at WashU) hands out too many acceptances early, it may miss out of some of the good applicants later in the application cycle. So my hypothesis is that they may be less reserved to reject those earlier in the process than later. Now, if they've rejected too many early on, then they have the luxury to "scramble" to accept more people later in the process. Again, this is a hypothesis and an alternative way of looking at the matter.

Of course, this changes from year to year as one can never predict when people will apply in any given year.

uproarhz, i can't believe that duke didn't give you an interview :thumbdown: ! Everyone who fills out that ridiculously long secondary should automatically be given an interview.

I know... but I should've expected it. They are one of those schools that really really like you to put them as a priority and fill out the secondary as quickly as possibly (like withing two weeks). Well, I didn't. I think it was 7 or 8 weeks until I got it all finished! So 5 days after I submitted my application they rejected me. I really don't think they even took a look at my app. They obviously weren't a top choice for me, and I guess that showed.

But I gotta say, with their application being one of the longest and worst I have filled (I think only Stanford was longer) they should give us a little more time. Oh well...

Your secondary to Duke couldn't have been as bad as mine was when I applied. Back then I used my Yale application essay as my Duke essay. But I forgot to replace the word "Yale" with "Duke" in the last paragraph. :laugh: Duke gave me the axe!

You've gotten interviews at solid places. I'm sure you'll end up somewhere good.

You got further than me ;) I didn't even get an interview... I think my pre-interview rejections had something to do with me going to a no-name state school, but I'll never know.

That's the thing. I didn't get an interview. I got the pre-interview axe.

That early interview thing was WashU.

I never interviewed at Duke, they gave me the big F--- YOU :laugh: (the secondary application snafu was Duke, not WashU).
