It's time to bring out the best study tool of all time, the "Official 2005 USMLE High Yield Minutia" thread. This worked very well last year when people started really getting into it. Post your high yield minutia and concepts that you recall from your studies. Try to keep the numbered format so you can print and study before you take your exam. Here we go:

1. Aniline or naphthalene dyes, cyclophosphamide - Transitional Cell Carcinoma
2. Neurological defects on isoniazid TB therapy - Vit. B6 (pyridoxine) deficiency
3. Japanese woman with
4. Pancreatic deficiency, oily stools, serum lipase&amylase, high chloride sweat test - Cystic fibrosis
5. Small game (i.e. rabbit) hunters with an ulceroglandular skin lesion from Arkansas, Illinois, Oklahoma, or Missouri - tularemia due to Francisella tularensis
6. Man with a "bag of worms" in his left testicle on physical exam - varicocoele

I thought it was lung: most common across both, and most common cause of death across both...??

Malignant melanoma technically causes the most cancers.

Lung causes most deaths across both sexes, though prostate and breast cancers are highest for each individual sex in terms of incidence.

Lung is the most common malignancy in men and women combined. And individually, you're right.

hey:
don't know if you wanted this in there, but for Qbank it helps to know for the nephropathy what it actually looks like, they purposely don't use the 'keyword'.

like:
membranoprolif GN: "subendothelial humps on GN" (tram track)
membranous GN: "electron dense deposits, PAS+" (spike and dome)
diabetics: "ovoid hyaline masses at periphery of glomerulus" (K-W nodules)

that's what i've got so far

(my boyfriend made up a silly mnemonic: "heparin HITT, warfarin WEPT")

actually i think i remember that from some goljan lecture, but the point is that it prolongs PT earlier and more significantly, right?

i mean it only makes sense that it should prolong PTT as well considering it's impairing factors in the intrinsic pathway (F9 being vit K dependent), but if you have both PT and PTT prolonged then you can't tell whether that's a warfarin or a heparin effect, right? so it's not very diagnostically helpful to know that warfarin affects both, but it would be to know that it particularly affects PT.
