I'll put in another vote for splitting the thread up soon.
I'll put in another vote for splitting the thread up soon.
East, West, Texas! That's perfect!
I don't see why Texas ought to be separated any more than California or New York ought to.
If we separate it I vote...A-T in one thread and U-Y in another...
If we do that, we should assign ONE and only ONE person to decide what we call East and West and the rest of us have to just accept it.
* I nominate shemarty, hehe *

I think a strict alphabetical separation into 3 threads worked well last year and is absolutely the least confusing. However, the posts aren't nearly long enough yet (especially at the current font size). I say give it a week.
100% agree.
How about we only split it a couple times though...
Possible lines across which to split might be:
Private, Public, Texas
East, West, Texas
A-M, N-Z, Texas
(not all mutually exclusive, but Texas should be separate, in my opinion)
How about we just go by state? MSAR order...i think we should alphabetize by state name, not by medical school name as was suggested earlier.
How about we just go by state? MSAR order...
AL-LA is 44 schools
MD-ND is another 41 schools
OH-WI is another 44 schools.

A-H, I-S, and T-Y is what they did last year and it resulted in even, manageable posts that were easy to locate.
I really prefer going by state. Alphabetical might sound easy, but I do think it can get confusing. For example, is it UChicago or Pritzker? Is it Loyola or Stritch?

This is why we let one person with proven judgment decide on a convention and we all follow it. If someone gets lost, or the system doesn't naturally fit their intuitive senses, then we kindly point them in right direction...
Why not?
And it's 6 of one, a half dozen of the other. If we do states, the school name people will complain. If we do school names, the state people will complain.
... to help things a little bit, we might use "University of X" as one thread itself, in which we include all the schools that start with University of... so that everything else is clearly alphabetical by school?
... and no nicknames... U of Chicago = U of Chicago... not Pritzker and U of Southern California = U of Southern California, not Keck... everytime, all the time.
Who knows.
Oh? You want to be consistent?
Then its Yeshiva right, not Albert Einstein? 😉

Thats what I said... It makes it a lot easier, and the MSAR already has an order! (see my post above). The schools should be split by names of the states they are in. Otherwise it would be just a mess.

Also someone would have to sticky a post with links to all interview threads so they are easier to find under pile of pre-allo threads.
Theres already a sticky for '08-'09 threads though. Mods wouldn't add another one.Yes! The sticky is an essential component to making this all work!
I vote to just split things up alphabetically. As silly as it sounds, I don't want to have to think about where each school is in order to look it up, I'd rather just go to the name of the school. This may make me sound like an idiot, but I've been so busy and so stressed that half the time I don't even remember where the schools are unless that are U of ____(insert state).
I really prefer going by state. Alphabetical might sound easy, but I do think it can get confusing. For example, is it UChicago or Pritzker? Is it Loyola or Stritch?
If we go by state, they can be much, MUCH easier to locate.
Honestly, the ones getting interviews better know what state the school's in anyway![]()
Now now, let's not get snarky.
I also vote for plain old alphabetical order (whether we want to call the med schools by their own name or the parent institution's can be decided by whomever wants to decide such things, it shouldnt be a problem if we stick to whatever convention is picked). While the MSAR system has the perk of already being figured out, I think it's in general more efficient to go through alphabetical order. At least on my part, I applied to 27 schools spread across the country, so while it'll make sense to me to look at New York, in which I applied to like 5 schools, it might not occur to me to look up North Carolina just for Duke or Louisiana just for Tulane. I'm not saying it's impossible, or even hard, just more (however marginally) time-consuming than simply scanning a page where everything is in alphabetical order.
Just my two cents.
I agree with LET - it worked very well last year and would be simpler. Plus, we can just figure out what the schools with confusing names are usually called (e.g. Loyola/Stritch is almost always called Loyola, AECOM is almost always called Albert Einstein, etc.) For the ambiguous names we could even post a placeholder under the other name (like Stritch for Loyola/Stritch) and say "See Loyola in other thread."
Also, I'll add all of the interview invite threads to the 08-09 sticky at the top of the page.
Hi guys,
Sorry I wasn't online all day!
I can handle the splitting of the new threads, no problem.
However, if this is going to be my job, just let me split it the way I want to.
I vote alphabetical by the school's full name, divided evenly so that there's approx 40 in each thread.
U Chicago is University of Chicago, not Pritzker.
UCSD is University of California - San Diego, not UCSD.
Although splitting by states is great in theory, this involves me manually resorting the interview invites we already have into a new order, by state then by school. I don't really wanna do this 🙁.
I *could* do if if I were bored enough and/or had time, but I'm working on an abstract tonight, and the deadline is SATURDAY (and I have to talk to my PI about it TOMORROW), so I don't really have the time to manually rearrange all the schools tonight. In fact, it's 8pm and I'm still sitting at the hospital trying to get all my data off this endovascular simulator. Aargh. It's so not user friendly.
So, if everybody is cool with ALPHABETICALLY BY THE SCHOOL'S TRUE NAME, then I'll work on this and it'll be up and running within the next day or two.
(Btw, when I make the new threads, I'm also going to add the names of ALL THE SCHOOLS, even if they haven't started inviting yet. That way nobody messes up the ordering of the schools as they try to add themselves as the 1st person to a new school - cause you KNOW it's going to happen.....!)
Thoughts?
