I'm gonna try to stay at a med student's house but the problem is that they'll only let you stay Thurs night and I can't get a flight back on Fri night...looks like one night in the car and a Sat morning redeye flight for me, good times.

And how long/how expensive it is to get to Galveston depends on which airport you're flying into. IAH (Bush) is in north Houston while HOU (Houston Hobby) is in the south. From Hobby, it's about an hour to UTMB but from Bush, it's an extra 45 minutes at least because you have to go through the center of Houston, so it could be worse with traffic. I'm planning on flying in to Hobby Thursday afternoon and then renting a car to drive down, even though the surcharges will be ridiculous since I'm under 25. But I'd be willing to drive someone down if you're coming around the same time as me.

I know it will make the thread really LONG, but I think it's easier to read, once you manage to scroll to the school you're looking for, right?

Yes. It's longer but 10x better.
I would also add in the instructions that people should add the school that they got the invite from in the TITLE! It really helps!

It will be much easier to read and reply in. I wouldn't know, as I'm still waiting for my first interview...🙁

I did do this, but maybe I should underline the word "title" so people don't overlook it.

Are the instructions better at the top or bottom of the list? I was considering putting it in both places 🙂

Either in the beginning or both! Maybe in a smaller font size, though?
 
I like this format much better, way easier to read. In order to keep it from getting too long we could break it into 3 posts, A-I, J-R, S-Z. ??

I agree. It will be much easier to read, but take forever to scroll through the posts. Divide it up like last cycle.

This means finding three separate threads for interviews. That's not nearly as helpful as one (long) thread. When checking interview dates, I want to check all my schools at once. Moving through three threads would severely hamper this. I know I'm not the only one who uses this thread that way.

Yeah but then also make sure that one of the mods index's these divided threads in the "09 Applicant.." sticky. Otherwise it would be just more time consuming to find all the broken threads.

I am not completely sure but I believe there is a character limit to a post too. So eventually we have to break this thread into smaller parts.

I dont understand why people prefer the 2 page long post with more spaces over the half a page post with no spaces.... Now it is completely unwieldy for the sake of looking pretty and will inevitably result in a thread split.
 
I liked it the old way, this is WAY too long. If the old one ain't broke, why fix it?

No, I am looking at 33 to see who is interviewing at the schools applied to, when they got that date, and when they were complete. This new list makes that job much harder. Old one was fine, plz revert. And 2 sets of instructions is kinda stupid....
 
Do all schools send out emails or snail mail letters to invite you for interviews?

If not, could anyone give feedback on those that don't?

Possibly! I have my Pitt interview scheduled for 9/5, so I'm not sure if I want them that close together...it would be a lot of flying for me. I guess I could take a train or something from Pittsburgh to Chicago, although that might mean I'd be spending as much for hotels as I would for the extra flight!

The compromise way is also nice. It spaces things out enough so that its not just one giant wall of text.

I put the instructions on there twice because having it there once doesn't seem to ensure that people actually see it/ follow it.

Seeing this thread get about 40 responses made me sad. Then I saw it was just formatting. I like the new way!

Another week without an interview invite. Only Jefferson and Rochester have given out of those I applied to. Rochester looks like they went after upper 30 MCAT scores first. Here's to hoping for a better next week.

Next week should be MUCH better. Hopefully.
 
Yo copingmethods or Schwerbert, I was wondering if you did research + had a reserch advisor send a recommendation letter in. I was complete yesterday... but I purposefully requested them to delay my app. for another week until my research letter was in. Is it worth it?

I don't want to be hasty and have them check out my app yet... but I still want them to make a decision :scared:
Did I make a mistake in delaying my app after being complete? I mean, how important is a research LOR?
 
I had my PI write me a letter, yes. I can't speak for pritzker on the importance of research experience or a letter form a PI, but I think their mission statement, website, etc speak for themselves. If it was only a week delay, I would think it would be well worth it.

Then again, I'm an ignorant pre-med, as well. I could be completely wrong, lol. But that is my first instinct.

lol no you're right. Research is a pretty big part of their statement. It's the premed in me.. making me feel like I'm falling behind 😀

I just realized I have 5 interviews in the span of 9 days. Don't get me wrong, I am so, SO grateful, but wow, this is going to be tiring. 🙂

At least you "realized" that this might not be a very appropriate post, especially when most people have not gotten even one invite.

Can't we all just be happy for one another, as well as sympathetic/empathetic toward one another? She's not running around, saying how much better she is than everyone. Plus, I totally understand how that could be frustrating - 5 interviews in 9 days? Travel is tiring, having to put some sort of "best face" forward pretty much every other day... that's just annoying. And for those who don't have interviews yet? It's AUGUST 1. It's okay not to have interviews until later.
