I feel like I should ignore SDN for the next few months (but I won't). You guys with your ridiculous stats and applications will make me feel bad and become extremely neurotic![]()

I suspect AOA status (as a proxy for MSPE) and Boards (lets say>250) serves as enough information to offer first round invites.

So what's the protocol on accepting invitations? Are you guys going ahead and scheduling them? Waiting til you get more?
Don't hold out. You can always cancel, but some places offer interviews to more people than spots and you could end up on a waitlist to a place you really want to go.How many interviews are you guys planning on going on?
I would like to commit to a few dates but I also want to hold out...
Use 1 or 2 interviews at places you think you have a great chance of getting in as warm-up and familiarization, then schedule the places that you think would end up lower on your rank list towards the end of interview season, that way you can cancel them when you have enough interviews (like 10-15).
In all honesty, most interviews I had were conversational and about my hobbies and research -- both topics that I know a lot about and am passionate about so it was easy going.
Hey can anyone advise at what point an applicant should be worried about the amount of invites they have? I only have 3 so far. Thought my profile was fairly competitive...didnt get a 265 on step 1 like everyone on sdn claims to have gotten but definitely have a fairly strong app

When would you start calling/emailing program coordinators if you didn't get invited? Mid October?
You should probably wait until after you know (either through this thread or from other sources) that the program you contact has already sent out a first wave of interviews. Some programs (most notably programs in California) start to send out interviews late in the season, some as late as November.
