Just a first year right now but was wondering what you all think about having to take time off during dedicated prep time for family obligations such as a sibling's college graduation? Will probably be about 3-4 weeks out from the test and will include a flight to the opposite coast. I really want to be there for this milestone but it's such bad timing :/

possible if you budget it into your schedule. lot of my classmates went to conferences to present research during dedicated study time, including myself. i did some studying on the plane ride

3-4 weeks out is totally fine. i flew to a family event 1 week before my exam and it was fine.

Yes, it is doable. I have a similar situation. Just plan ahead. If you stay focused in the airport/plane you can get a lot done. U World has a great functioning app that runs on tablet/phone. Have audio lectures of something going while you're walking around.

Do an NMBE to see where you stand score wise- that should help with your decision.

Took the exam on the 30th and was just going through the new set of sample questions for May 2014 onwards (uploaded april 23?). 8 repeats. Yes thats correct, 8.

I downloaded the Free 150 questions with the FRED interface in January. Do you guys/gals know if they changed the Free 150 questions with this April update? My computer won't let me install the new updated FRED software since the old one is already installed. Don't want to lose the older Free 150 questions yet...haven't looked at them.

Just took uwsa 2 as my first practice exam. Ended up with 80% for a 258. Pretty happy with that even if it does over predict. A little under 5 weeks left, hoping I can hit my 250 goal. I'm about 50% through uworld. Anyone have any advice on whether to just do my marked and incorrects after I'm finished or reset and redo the whole thing?

Nicely done, seems like you're sitting pretty. Keep it up. I'd wager most folks will tell you to just do your marked/incorrect questions. You can use the rest of the time to take more practice NBMEs, listen to Pathoma more, etc. Seems like your schedule gives you some nice breathing room.

I'm feeling good.

4/12 - NBME 16 - 215
4/19 - NBME 7 - 234
4/20 - UWSA 1 - 245
4/28 - NBME 11 - 226
5/4 - NBME 12 - 237

Test is on 5/29 (moved it forward a bit because I want some extra vacation and my scores are in a range I'll be very happy with), and I think it'll go well. I think I'm doing UWSA2 and NBME 13 next weekend.

Great job! You're on your way to a good score. As an aside, I think one of the most underrated things people can do is move their test date up if they think they are almost ready. I truly believe in this idea of "peaking."

I also forced my boyfriend to move his date up. He got a 247 on this last one. I'm not certain why he's stressing about it, but that's his prerogative!

Thanks for the encouragement! 3.5 more weeks and then VACATION TIME! WOOOOOOOOO

why'd you take UWSA2 before UWSA1?

Absolutely no rhyme or reason. I just clicked on it because it was the lower of the two and I wasn't paying attention this morning haha.

I agree, not sure if I'll burn out in the next 5 weeks and regret not moving it up, but my girlfriend is also taking it the day I am and I don't want to leave her hanging. Hopefully not shooting myself in the foot.

I moved my test up about a week last year and it worked out really well for me. I think that extra week of just flipping through stuff would've added unnecessary stress and worn me out. I was totally ready to go when I took the test. Having said that, if you feel like you might burn out, maybe take it easy for a few days, then go balls to the wall a few weeks before your test. A little break might help you now if you think you can afford it. Good luck!

How close to your exam can you be and still move it up without having to pay? How much do you have to pay after that?

I take my exam on the 7th of June. I took my school's CBSE around 1 month ago and scored ~215 on it. I've since been studying very diligently and today scored a 245 on NBME form 11. I definitely still have studying to do, but I'm wondering if I need that full 5 more weeks. I want to do emergency medicine and my goal was to be at a 250 to be competitive at any program I might want to apply at, at least as far as step 1 is concerned.

I think its 30 or 31 days before. $50 to move before then

250, from what I've gathered, is excessive (though that's not a bad thing, of course) even for California. A 240 puts you in a great place for EM anywhere, though I obviously won't discourage you from doing your best.

I'm also hoping for EM, and I moved my exam up after several scores in the 230's.

Ah, I really want to take another practice test before I moved up just incase my score was a fluke. I don't think it would make sense to take another one within the next 2 days as I really wouldn't have studied THAT much more for it.

June 7th it is. Here's to 5 more weeks of the grind!

Need advice. Even though my UW SIM 1 was 260 two months ago, but my third pass of UW is only 87% recently! So Panic........... I think the reason is I didn't make notes, and I actually don't remember the questions that I did more than two months ago. My form 12, form 15 was 237, 235 respectively in march. I am going through UW explanations and make notes currently. But it is so slow, I can only go through 2-3 blocks in one whole day. Could I hit 250 in five weeks?

take some NBMEs. A 3rd pass of Uworld is excessive. Hell, 2 passes of Uworld is excessive IMO; redoing all your wrongs/marked is better.

Hi.. new member in the forum.. benefited alot from all the comments and replies..
Struggling with pharm these days..
Wish u all the best

As said above, 3rd pass is a bit much. And, 87% is really good, I don't know what you expected to get.

Have you not done an NBME since March? That's gonna be the only tell of where you stand. And, yes, it is likely with hard work you could hit 250 in 5 weeks given where you were just two months ago.

Edit: just saw your second post. Have you done the offline NBMEs?

My friends got >90% in the 3rd pass of UW. My excuse is I completed every block with around 15 mins left, and I didn't go back to check my answers. My second pass of Rx was 83% for 20 blocks and then I gave up doing that. Unfortunately, I have done all NBMEs except 13 and 16. Plan to do Kaplan SIM two weeks later, and then UW SIM 2.

So, to be clear, you've already done the offline NBMEs? (NBME 1-6)

Edit: nevermind, I think you're being neurotic. You're very prepared and you're going to do fine.

I should have taken it a day earlier......I took mine on May 1st and didn't get any questions I've ever seen before. I did the old free 150, the new paper version, and the one at the test center.

Is the paper one any different than the new free 150?

Yes, there are no media questions in a pdf.

I see this question 20 times a week. -.-

Jesus guys, 1. Read, or 2. Search function...

This is like literally on the second page...
"
1. The following pages include 138 sample test questions.
2. Most of these questions are the same as those you install on your computer from the USMLE Web site.
3. Please note that reviewing the sample questions as they appear on pages 7-41 is not a substitute for practicing with the test software.
4. You should download and run the Step 1 tutorial and practice test items that are provided on the USMLE website well before your test date.
5. The sample materials available at the USMLE Website include additional items and item formats that do not appear in this booklet, such as items with associated audio or video findings and sequential item sets.
"

Answers like every variation of the questions people ask about the free 150 -.-
