*~*~*~* Official 2015-2016 Interview/Acceptance/Rejection Thread *~*~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I
I took lot of upper level science courses, few as special topics like: embryogenesis and fertilization, parasite ecology, and so on. Do you think my score in QR is holding me back?
personally I think your Stats and EC are not high enough to get in this cycle. If your test score and gpa are low, the hours should be high enough to compensate and vice versa. In your case, you have neither. Dont be discouraged tho. If you can, retake your DAT and put in more volunteers hours. Then, Apply when you are ready!

I already got rejections from Midwestern AZ and Meharry TN 🙁 I don't think so with this stats I would able to get an interview this time. Feel really horrible 🙁

I see that you applied broadly. No one really knows what ADCOMS is looking for. Stay positive. Your time will come!!

Waitlist for interview at Midwestern AZ (notification date 9/3/15)

UNLV's earliest available date is January 8th, so it's my first post-Dec interview. I heard pre-Dec interviews mean better chance of acceptance but I'm just happy with anything other than rejection!

How does your brain even make the connection that "Under Review" could mean you're rejected?
Because every time that I email USC and ask about my application status they reply me that it is under review. How long does it take for them to review my application?

It takes until they decide they want to interview you or when they decide to start formally rejecting people.

Do they formally send any rejection email to all the applicants?

Some people are notified when they're rejected after dec 1, but I saw in last year's USC thread that some people rejected as late as june/july while others were never formally rejected at all. Obviously that sucks, but what I think you can take from that is that you really have to just wait it out and sit tight for a while. If you've contacted them more than a couple times I'd stop and wait. It could be months, yeah, but they aren't going to be able to tell you much on the phone anyway and you could potentially annoy someone lol.

Some of these replies to your post are really harsh. The truth is, we are all students and none of us can pinpoint what you should improve or what schools are looking for. If you want concrete advice to follow, you should contact the schools that rejected you directly, ask how you can improve your application, and ask what it is that's holding you back. Let them know that you're really interested in their programs and that you're motivated and determined. Most schools will gladly share what it is that you need to improve, and then you can decide if you want to take the recommended steps.

Tbh I was under the impression most dental schools don't really care about QR; how many schools did you apply to? If you applied broadly, I would think that you would stand to gain a few interviews in the near future? Otherwise, I think your QR might be holding you back a little.

In all honesty, your GPA isn't that low because several people who were accepted with your GPA in the past. I just believe that your DAT is low in comparison to the other applicants, which could result in some of your rejections. If you can bring your DAT to AA/TS 19-20 with no scores under 19, then you should be getting plenty of interviews next year.

MANY MANY schools will put you in silence until the end of the whole cycle.
As far as I remember, I know for sure VCU and Maryland did that to me last year

I think you have a lot of things going against you, your 18 DAT, your low shadowing hours and what looks like low volunteer hours. Some schools want a minimum of 60 hours at application to even be considered. Midwestern is HUGE on volunteer hours so if you don't have a couple hundred hours, they probably aren't going to consider your app unless you had something else that really stood out--super high stats, in-state, etc. They also like to see 100 hours of shadowing. Meharry likes to see a minimum of 50 hours of shadowing. If I were an adcom and saw your app, to me it says "I did the bare minimum to get buy" and probably would put you in the thanks but no thanks pile. Sorry, but it is what it is. Now, that's not to say other schools might not see something they like on your app, but I'm just going off what you have posted here.

Not interviewing but if you stay at a hotel near the light rail, you can get around a good portion of the Twin Cities, including to the U of MN, pretty easily. The airport is on the light rail, as is the Mall of America. It would save money on a rental car. Also, most of the hotels with 15 miles or so of the airport have free shuttles to/from the airport and the Mall of America so if you can find a hotel in Eagan or Mendota Heights for less, that would be an option too. There is a Microtel in Eagan that usually is pretty inexpensive, has a shuttle and is clean and safe.

Hey guys, I really need your opinion.

I changed my disadvantage status from No to Yes and thus I have 2 mailed out dates now. The first one is 08/13 and second one on 10/2. Will this mess up my application? I shouldn't do so ;((((
My stats are good paired with decent EC but I still havent heard from most schools. I feel so hopeless now so it would be great if anyone can leave me a comment! Thank you!

I decided it'd be cheaper to get a rental car and stay in Detroit due to the elevated prices for game day weekend. I'll be making a trip out of the Michigan interview and seeing how it is. If you'll be there we can try to make the game

Really feeling blessed and honored right now! My dad went to Touro, so hopefully being a legacy student will help me out. Interesting method of notification- almost seemed as if it was an accident. Very creative and innovative on their part! If anyone has the same date as me, let me know! Would love to meet up in the McDonald's below the school or something like that.

Where is Touro???

Do most schools try to fill up all of their spots pre-december? Or are the chances of getting an interview post-december the same? I only have 4 interviews right now and want to gauge what to expect.. :lame:

Wow. Okay. One. The school is IN the McDonald's, behind the nuggets. Two, "Very creative and innovative"? How about the MOST CREATIVE AND INNOVATIVE SCHOOL. The are the first school to streamline fast food and teeth cleaning and put the dentist (not the patient) first as well as putting everyone under anesthesia for even basic procedures (No more rowdy patients!)

I can't believe they'd offer someone like you who just expects to get into a prestigious school through being a legacy kid. I worked my butt off for an interview here and I know the school and menu inside and out, while you couldn't bring yourself to look up the school AT ALL.

You are seriously being so disrespectful right now. Just because I'm a legacy doesn't mean I don't also have the entire menu memorized. You're so ridiculous. What's wrong with wanting a Big Mac while I'm waiting for my impressions to set in? Nothing. What's wrong with a soda machine doubling as an x-ray machine? Nothing. What's wrong with being a legacy there? Nothing. Just because it's one of the best fast-food ivies in the entire country doesn't mean that there isn't enough space for everyone. Check your privilege.
