*~*~*~* Official 2015-2016 Interview/Acceptance/Rejection Thread *~*~*~*

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed last Friday at WVU and I had the second interview and was in the first group of people who had interviews. I have lower than average GPA and DAT, but awesome LOR and lots of dental volunteer experience and shadowing hours. The place I volunteer at is actually a rural rotation for the school and I am the only predental student that volunteers there. What do you think my chances are?

Just curious why you both applied to Mo-KC when it's well published that they only take out of state from a few states?

From their website:

As a public institution financially supported by the state of Missouri, our first obligation is to qualified residents of Missouri. Additionally for many years we have had formal or informal agreements with the states of Kansas,Arkansas, New Mexico, and Hawaii to accept qualified residents of those states to our program.Preferred consideration will be given to applicants who are residents of the states listed above.Applications from other states are welcome and are considered on an individual basis for highly qualified candidates.

In the email they said - "...we are not prepared to take official action at this time. While we cannot act on your application at this time, applications will be in a continuous state of review throughout the duration of the cycle. You will be informed immediately of any change in the status of your application." I am assuming they are giving preference to in-state applicants before making a decision on out-of-state applications? Not exactly sure.

That sounds like a "continue review". It is a generic message that OHSU sends out when they have not decided what to do with your application. Please correct me if I am wrong....

I actually have no idea what it means, so your guess is as good as mine haha. I just assumed it meant a waitlisted application lol.

My mentor is from UMKC and she said very good things about the school so I wanted to take a shot even when knowing my chance is low

Well, I think the statement could sound a ltitle ambiguous. I interpret the statement as "you have a significantly less chance to get accepted as a student from a state that we did not mention, but if you truly want to attend our school, for whatever the reason is, please don't let that fact alone discourage you from applying to our school because we would aaaaabsolutely love to read every new application"

Anyone not hear back from any schools yet?

Application sent out 08/21/15
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/RC/Below 17):18/18/17/18/stupid math...
GPA: Undergrad 3.2, post Bach 3.8

I haven't, and I was second batch 🙁

I haven't, and I was second batch 🙁

Same, I'm second batch and I haven't heard from the four schools I've applied to: Tennessee, Ohio State, Birmingham, and Louisville.

20 AA/TS and I believe a 23 on the PAT. 18 on QT

3.74 Total GPA. No idea on science off the top of my head.

No idea what's up yet, but I'm staying patient. :]

Dang - unfortunately OSU's time has passed for handing out interviews. You have good enough stats to merit an interview at those schools I would think. I hope you get one at Tenn at least since it is in state for you

Yeah, everyone I've spoken to seems trumped on what may be hindering me for an interview. I've applied twice before with a much more average DAT score, which I'm wondering if it is a "stain" on my record.. But, I've got to hope that it isn't. Because if it is, what can I really do.

Thanks for the hopeful thoughts and encouragement though!

Umich seems to be way behind. They are just getting back to the first two batches.... C'mon, UMich! I'm rooting for you!
I received an email from umich telling me they've received all my material and will be forwarded to adcom. However they didn't tell me anything regarding paying my supplemental fee. Do I have to receive a fee request from the, in order to pay? I checked their website to see if they had a site where I would pay but nothing to be found.

Only got 1 interview coming up at udm. Aadsas mailed out 9/18. I'm getting impatient for the rest of my interviews....sigh

Nothing here as well. Nothing from 14 schools I applied to... (beside 2 continue review status) My mail-out date was July 2nd. Then updated DAT score on July 31st...

You're supposed to mail the supplemental fee to them; you get an email confirming that the fee was received.

I'm on for the 11/20 and I don't know for sure if I'm gonna have the money or time to make it, but I'm gonna try my best because it's such a great town and school!
What batch were you?

Or it could mean "sure, go ahead and apply, but unless you have a connection to our state, you aren't getting in, but we are happy to take your money.". It's pretty well known that if you aren't from one of those states or don't have a connection to MO in some way, you aren't getting in there....and its the same case with many of the state schools.
