USMLE Official 2020 Step 1 Experiences and Scores Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I felt that way too a week before. I took it easy and just did UWorld to stay in shape and rested at night.

I'm not aiming as he as you, obviously.

But my UWSA2 and nbme said 230 and I got 230.
Your UWSA and NBME avg prediction on the score predictor? The one that has a correlation of like .72 or something crazy high? or you got a 230 on UWSA2 and also on NBME 18?

I got 230 on both and 230 on the Step 1.

My score predictor had me at 238.

Welp 249.87 reddit predictor with a 250+ goal. Feels like missing the cutoff for qualifying for olympic running time by less than a second after training for years. 249 on UWSA2 really fd me-missed 251 by one question. I know its still possible to hit 250 but since when has the predictor underpredicted lets be honest its a malignant overpredictor. Whats more accurate the avg formula based prediction, the UWSA + NBME predicted R2 or the date adjusted only

edit: if i take out my baseline score that i took in mid march predictor says 251. Lol im just being ocd now lmao faackk i cant wait for this to be over

How did it feel compared to UWorld and new NBMEs
definitely more vague and more 50/50 then the nbmes but easier than UWORLD. It's hard to explain. I was 100% sure on a lot less questions but my insight still paid off in the long run. The NBMES in my opinion have about 15-20 more vague questions or ones that you're kinda shooting in the dark for each block. I'd say the majority of free 120 were like that. But everyone has their own experiences with it. Im hitting a wall and having to read several questions more than once.

My biggest advice is trust your first instinct. They aren't trying to trick you. Second. If you're 50/50 read back through the question and see if a word or phrase leans more towards that diagnosis despite the rest of the stem. Its not a buzz word test but you can't get rid of buzz phrases

This 100% I was freaking out about the free 120 when I took it. felt way less sure of my answers. then I checked everything and I got a straight 80 on every block. surreal feeling

Really debating on whether I should do the Free 120 or not tomorrow. Its literally 3-4 hours of my day that I could be spending reviewing other stuff. I am not going to learn from it since they don't have explanations. Thoughts? Is it really that necessary?

Highly recommend just so you get the question style

I took Comlex 1 yesterday. The first part was ok but the middle was crazy I had to take break for few minutes. Then lunch for 45 minutes and same thing first part was easy but middle part was crazy and end part was ok. I hope I did well on this. Overall it wasn't that bad but this test was crazy long and worn me out. I hope I will get 401 🙂

I feel you so hard. 401 is what I was shooting for and I did a whole lot better than that. Good luck with the horrendously long wait!

91% (95/83/95) on Free 120! Pretty amped about it even though its not predictive lol

You’re going to kill it. There’s no question. I am going to predict you at 255-260 between this and your previous scores.

Thank you! I would literaly be on the floor with a 255 lmao Im gonna finish up chapters 1-3 of pathoma and then im officially done studying for Step 1 forever omg i thought it would never end

I predict you at 256-259 and if it's within that then Calivianya has to give me some of her COMLEX points

yeah....Ready for it all to be over. Anxiety is peaking like its never peaked before
Dude you have killer scores remember that and know that youre going to destroy it. You should have less reason to be nervous than so many people. Youve proven with your scores youre a top performer. Id predict you mid 250s

Anybody have any clue what to do about comlex? I read savarese like 2 months ago but it was a fly through. I was just planning on reading that hard core for 4 days then taking comlex. All ive done is UWOLRD and the usual Pathoma/sketchy/FA. Haven't touched any of the combank or comquest questions?

Appreciate the kind words. Idk why but all of my friends are underperforming significantly. Maybe ill get a good test and knock it out of the park. But I'd be fine with anything in the 240s

I would just trust your scores man. Dont worry about them they arent you. Walk in there attacking that thing and just take it one question at a time. Every high scorer i have talked to said the key is to not get wigged out when you get a string of questions you dont know gotta try and keep your cool. 80 experimental questions is a ton so just tell yourself they are experimental and odds are they probs are because if you dont know the answer then the majority of test takers dont know either

I like your positivity....my wife tells me that daily and I dismiss her. Maybe I need to start listening. Also props to her for putting up with this entire summer of no money, no place to go, and me in a separate room slaving away fro 12-14 hours a day. She's the real mvp

You don't need to do Combank or Comquest. All I did between Step and COMLEX was OMM OME videos (about 7 hours total) and reading through Savarese and it was more than enough. Know viscerosomatics like the back of your hand though, there are several Youtube videos that you can watch and make sure to have that memorized.

what's your guy's biggest advice for a rising M2 when it comes to board prep?

I'm 20% mature with Anking and I was planning on finishing a q bank before starting UWorld in the spring. Not sure if I should add in another q bank since it seems like more questions and less flashcards is the way to go

Save Uworld for dedicated, but do a directed Qbank throughout the school year as you finish Anking decks.

Honestly the biggest advice I could give is just to fully come to terms with how difficult the prep is mentally and physically. I thought dedicated would be rough but figured that without school in the way it might be smoother than the pre dedicated studying I did, I was blown away with how draining dedicated was and was barely treading water by the time I took step and Comlex. Rona didn't help (and was probs a big reason tbh), but basically every single aspect of my life went down the crapper.

Rx to get familiar with first Aid is what I did in the fall. Then I did Kaplan and Amboss and liked Amboss better. I left UWorld for March onward when I had already finished a bank (great decision). If I were you I would still Rx first on untimed/tutor/systems then Amboss timed random (1 to 4 hammer questions only, 5 hammer questions are ******edly hard and unnecessary) then finish off with UWorld. Depends on what your goal score is but im assuming if youre posting in this thread and you havent started M2 yet you wanna score big lol. My general advice is the more questions the higher the score. I never used anki that much but some people love it and scored really high so its up to you I just personally like to practice critical thinking more than hitting space bar

I would just add to start UWORLD a bit before dedicated. I basically completed ZANKI before, and it was just me and UWORLD, and itbasically took me the entire period to get through it. Right now we're at 3000 questions. Just keep track of that number. If they add another thousand by next year, then you certainly won't finish.

Thank you so much calivianya! Step 1 was last Saturday and it gave me 6 days to study for Comlex 1 . I relaxed on Sunday and studied for 4 days. I'm at my parents house so that helped me a lot. I didn't have to worry about food prep and other stuff. Let's see how well I have done. I will update you next month.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Do y'all just kind of ignore class material for the most part or at least spend less time looking at it?

The best way to study boards pre-dedicated is to bust your ass in the classroom. You want as much of dedicated to be review as you can. You do not want to be learning new material during it. Our curriculum had Heme one and OB/Repro second year. You don't wanna miss out on that

Got the appointment reminder call from my Prometric center today and it all feels so real now lol. I know I should trust my practice scores (last couple weeks: NBME 23: 250, NBME 18: 260, UWSA 2: 260, Free 120: 95%) but still can't help but feel like it's all an overprediction and I'm hemorrhaging knowledge every second and I have soooo many more things I need to look over one last time before the exam. But on the other hand I can barely do anything, I'm so burned out. Literally can't wait for this thing to be over.
