I figured since it seems there is a thread for all the other recent and upcoming test dates, I'd start one for us 5/19ers.

Two weeks to go, getting close.

Hey, I've got a few questions for you guys. What is your plan regarding potentially retaking? Is anyone going to sign up for another test date before they get their score back in a month? I am concerned about this, because I am worried that if I have to retake, it will set me back in the application process. Schools will not review my application until sometime in August if I retake in July.

All together, my numbers are not all that competitive (cum gpa 3.46 and BCMP 3.71) so I am trying to get everything in ASAP to maximize my chances of interviews at MD schools.

I have a really bad case of post-MCAT syndrome. I've just been watching reruns of Grey's Anatomy and Modern Family, while pretending to do some work on my personal statement. There's no way I'm going to open up my TBR books to start studying again. I'm planning on applying to one school (for verification purposes), then seeing how my MCAT scores turn out in June.

If my scores are horrible, I'll probably retake in July/August. Hopefully I won't have to :xf:

Though I probably did awful compared to my normal BS, the curve should adjust everyone's scores accordingly (mine prob suffered since I didn't finish the exam's BS)

Either way, only 25 more days!

How'd you find that out? Mine doesn't show the AMCAS-calculated GPA at all, just the course list. I'm assuming mine would be the same, considering I have no retakes or 'border' sGPA classes

sorry, left out an "A", AACOMAS...I haven't started AMCAS yet. They must be different...The ACCOMAS have a page that displays all of the GPA info

Yeah, the AACOMAS app will show you your GPA(sci overall and non-sci), while the AMCAS doesn't display it, or at least not while your completing it. Are you applying DO?

Me?
I'm only going to apply MD this year, as that's my true interest. I'm worried about my MCAT score, which originally I wasn't worried about at all since I was doing well, but I didn't complete some passages on my BS section (just filled in "B" for them), and my verbal fluctuates pretty consistently between 7-10 so I don't know how that'll end up. That's the only thing making me think about applying DO, if both my VR and BS scores end up being as low as I anticipate, but I know it wouldn't make me happy as it's not my goal. I suppose hopefully I just did amazing on my PS section and get surprised by my VR and BS scores being much higher than I anticipated post-exam. The rest of my app I think will be at least above average.

I'm just hoping to get my AMCAS submitted on the 5th, but that's looking pretty sketch about now.

Thought I had hit the quote botton, guess i just hit reply. My bio and verbal sections were always at least 8's. For me the physical sciences are the wild card(anywhere from 6-9) 😕 I'm really concerned about my PS score. Bio too, but I don't feel AS worried for some reason about the bio section. I was kind of thinking of going DO the route since at least 2010. I'll probably apply MD (depending on my scores). I was kind of thinking of going DO the route since around 2010. After a couple days at disneyland and, somehow, not thinking of the mcat, I decided to apply EDP to my state school as soon as I get my score. If my score is bad I will wait to reapply until next year when I can bring my score up and apply to both MD and DO programs...it was nice not thinking about any of this for a couple days hahaha

I can't see any advantages to EDP with very few exceptions. If at all possible I recommend you some how take back your application. It's just not worth it.

Trust me Im one of those exceptions. My average scores hit average of 28. My state school average acceptance mcat is 28. I predict a 26 on the one I took with you all. If that holds up my state school is the only one I have a shot at (MD wise). They only get about 12 EDP applicants per year and have a guarantee interview for those. Also they interview over 50% percent of the applicants total and accept 50% of those. They take over 99% in state students as matriculants. I really dont see the downside of me applying edp there. Especially since I blend with their mission statement exactly, have family less than an hour away and can live there practically for free...... Also As I said in my post I havent and wont apply til i get that score on the 18th so I still have time to think... 🙂

I was battling this as well. Don't get me wrong D.O would be fine with me. However, we do have a slight regional bias against D.O's where I live currently and would love to practice when I complete school/residency here. Also, I don't want to be at any residency disadvantage when it comes to that business. Plus I would enjoy to do some research in med school. Other than those reasons I think D.O would be pretty cool. After talking to a couple good friends who happen to be M.D's and my parents I decided that if I don't get in next year I'm gonna reapply and add D.O. The doctors I talked said that although M.D's in my area see D.O's as competent physicians, they are generally looked down on. This is understandable due to the fact that my area is filled with alot of old school docs.....

I took the 5/19 MCAT and left feeling not great. I have since registered for the July 6 exam as a retake. If my scores from 5/19 are satisfactory I will cancel the retake, if not then I will already be set up.
I had a difficult time finding a nearby testing center with open seats for July dates. If you anticipate a retake, signing up earlier than later might be a smart move.

That's actually exactly what I'm doing. I'm submitting at the end of this week for my state school then waiting for my scores to add the rest.

.....and I've also been watching reruns of Grey's Anatomy and Modern Family....

I've just been watching a lot of Arrested Development and trying not to over worry :/

Separated at birth?!

A bunch of my friends got their recent MCAT scores back the other day...all >30 :claps: I guess there's hope because some of them cried multiple times after their exam day...as I have cried multiple times myself... +pity+

2 weeks left.

Well technically scoring a 7 would put you in like the 99.99%
How can a school turn that down?

I felt like such a ******* idiot in that dream it was epic. I got 1 question right on verbal. 1/40...... First time i felt relieved waking up from an mcat dream.

What, if any, songs did you guys have playing in your head during the test? I had this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AJB8mfm9Zg

I am impressed on your ability to multitask. I almost always have music playing in my head but I was so into the test I hardly noticed I was sitting in a chair let alone have extra thoughts about music in my head...

It's hard to say how representative those posters are to the whole group that took the MCAT that day. Which section are you guys most uncertain about? PS and VR, I have a pretty good idea of how I did, but BS is so hard to say. Man I hope the curve is generous on that section especially.

I agree about the posted scores its still impressive though. Im most concerned about BS as well. I thought verbal was easy.......

PS because it's my weakest subject. Our BS was ridiculous, but the "magic" of the bell curve should hopefully fix that. Idk, about the curve for PS and my score. I think I did good on verbal. We're next up. One more week guys... if our nerves don't kill us first.😕

I'm starting to get nervous!! Verbal scares me the most, because although it felt straightforward I can see it coming back as a 6 or something. PS I felt rocked me at that time but I don't remember anything about that section besides the first passage, so idk if thats a good thing or bad thing. BS I think was okay, we will see though. Just praying for my average +/- 1.

There were some posters on that thread that had practice test scores and TBR scores etc much worse than mine, but did very well. I hope that's indicative of something.

If not, I'm gonna be annoyed with my luck. Hah.

Am I the only one bouncing back and forth? One second I'll thinking I got a 5 on PS, and the next I have faith in my average 9... I feel like im going to have an anxiety attack!

you are not alone, my mind is playing a lot of tricks on me as well...
only about a half a million seconds left until we get out scores. almost there.

Cheer up everyone, I have a physics joke. Ok. This is a thought experiment: two Isaac Newtons walk into a bar. Then, one of them turns to the other and says, "did you know that the amount of a magnetic field permeating a given area is proportional to the field strength and area size?" and the other Isaac Newton responds, "I don't know what the flux you are talking about."
