Official April 4, 2013 MCAT Thread

Just took this thing and I do not know what to say. I think I nailed the physical sciences, only like 7 questions were up in the air for me. Biology was harder than the aamc's especially some of those discretes but I think I did ok. If anything kills me its going to be verbal. Anyone feel that the verbal passages were fairly easy to understand, but for many of the questions you were stuck between two answer choices. Hoping my gut feeling was right and that most of the questions i answered incorrectly were experimental!!

You took the words right out of my mouth/mind for how I felt about the entire test! Curious to see how we do... Ugh

Idk how you guys remember any of this stuff! It all feels like a big blur to me!! Also be careful about talking about specific topics I don't want anyone to get in trouble!

Ok, I agree I think I got raped in the right hemisphere. I do not think we all get the same tests. I found verbal reasoning to be easy. I was right on time with the completion of all my passages and for once I actually understood what the passages were about. PS scratch paper filled up quickly. Lots of math, suprisingly. Some of my chemistry discretes were so easy I thought they were trying to trick me. BS- over kill on some of the same topics. I could say all of biology questions came from three distinct areas in biology- exactly where my bio teacher told me they would come from.

I did the extra session. And I hope to baby Jesus I dont have to take this thing again after they add that section. Thats a whole new **** load of stuff to study.

Overall, the mcat beat the piss out of me. I walked out feeling reduced to the lowest common denominator after having studying times 5 months and being a registered nurse for 10years. I have a new respect for doctors. My guess is that Ill probably be taking this beast again. Can not even speculate what my score is because Im too stunned to even remember what the questions were. But for now i have the thrown the books under the friggin bed.
😡😡😕😱

I agree. But I got stuck on the first question on PS. I think it set my tone for the entire test. i marked it and had to go back to it twice.

Dont worry OBWannabee I think everyone feels about the same after taking that beast! Just wait to get your scores back you may be really surprised on how well you actually did!

I think that you need to do a combo. First, go over every topic thats on the aamc study guide. Secondly, do practice tests so that you get used to the format. Third pinpoint the areas that are your weakness and go back to your TEXTBOOK. i did those"1001 questions in _____" and I cant say that any of that showed up in my test. What I say that when i did have to use the equations the information was very straight forward, you just have to kknow when to use the equation. Pay attention to quantities:tesla, Coulumb, Farads, etc. They will try to trick you up with those. Overall, you need to know a little bit about a lot. I would say about 10% of what I covered was actually on my tests. Same consecpt twisted up in an evil way. The test is not easy. Be afraid. Be very afraid. Better yet, be prepared.

PS = Knew it like the back of a ham.

VR = What the horse shoe was that

BS = Eh, float like a butterfly, punch like a flea

Trial Section = those 2015 test takers have it rough, poor guys. It's going to run over them like a train. Atleast I get 30 dollars to amazon!!

dam just realized i made a mistake on the oxidation # problem for one of the discrete physics... );. Btw anyone find the first question for the circuit passage kinda weird?

Definitely... Also as some have mentioned, there was one in PS that seemed flawed, as in they didn't give enough variables to answer it

Oh I did I mention I ran out of time on PS? Went through one whole passage and clicked "C". Ill probably be less stunned tomorrow. Ill cry then.

Speaking of flawed I felt the bio discrete asking about boiling point difference was kinda off? or was that just me?

Exactly my feelings, it was the last question on the test right?

And I'm with you about first circuit question also. I felt like they needed to give us a bit more explanation on that one.

And the first passage of PS had a weirdly worded question also.

at least they could have provided labels to clarify

Yeah BTW u had ur mcat at prometric center right?
I remember them calling ur name, and the fact we have the same questions mean we all took the same test. So r they gonna scale it based on how we did or Wht. Also will we be told how many questions were experimental starting to get pissed thinking about this test for the 15th time in my head.😡

Ahh forget this, there's no use talking about it. It's making me feel way worse, time to stop obsessing about which ones I got wrong.

Do they tell us the exact day where we can expect the scores back? All I saw was 30-35 days later, but it seems like people always know the exact minute to expect scores.

Ya at prometric, but shams al deen is not my real name lol so probably someone else. And the curve is based on difficulty but the difficulty is not determined on how WE did. It was determined before we even took the test by how previous test takers handled the mysterious "experimental" questions.

The Prometric center I tested at was having problems with their server, and so we had to wait over 3 hours to take the exam....Talk about tense! By the end of BS I was so tired and hungry, I def. didn't do as well as I had hoped. I do agree with the above posters about PS and VR. Congrats to everyone that it's done!

Guys, I think I screwed up. 🙁 I know it's done and over with, but I can't stop thinking about it. PS was HARD - usually that's my strong point and I don't even know if I hit a 10 on this one. The first question of the exam threw me off and made me feel flustered. Verbal was surprisingly okay, but I always suck in VR, so I'm not expecting anything great. BS was better than PS, but still hard - less Orgo than I expected.

I wouldn't be as disappointed if this wasn't a re-write. I got a 27 the first time around and I was aiming for a 31 this time. I don't think that's going to happen. Maybe I'm being too hard on myself... But I have a feeling a 3rd MCAT is going to be in order. 🙁

My story today was hilarious... I am really not sure how i wrote the exam... Feels like I was in a trans.... Do not remember anything now..

Could not sleep all night... had less than 2 hrs of sleep and woke up from sleep with no power in the entire community at 3am (freezing rain and burnt transformers), could not sleep, got ready in dark and left for the exam... slippery roads... Powerless intersections hahahaha:laugh:

Also, in the middle of my BS exam, computer froze on me... freaked out.. but luckily my test was saved at where it was left Thank god!!!!!

Anyways, at the end of the day, it feels like a dream... it feels like I am having and wasting too much time doing nothing... UNSURE HOW I DID IT.... WHY????

We all get same exams right? Always thought so but never verified it myself.

Like everyone said PS was tough. There was only one hard passage but discretes were just weird. A part of me is glad I couldn't have prepared for them.

VR was easy in terms of passage difficulty, but i jusy know i am gonna get some of them wrong no matter what.

BS was weird. I didnt have the luxury of having tons of extra time, but i actually thought it played up to my strength. Not too many esoteric facts.

I am glad we are all done, but i am not sure if i can handle the suspense of not knowing my score for 35 days lol

Anyone else did trial section? I got all psychology stuff that i haven't seen for ages. Still i thought they were fairly easy.

My Doppelgänger over here!

I felt the same about 90% of what you said.

PS: Surprisingly Calculation intensive plus it didn't boost my psyche having the First passage so rough! Thankfully I was able to finish it all... Literally on the dot (Clutch!).

VR: For the first time EVER I was able to finish it without completely guessing an entire passage. (God is good!). Hopefully that a sign of good things to come.

BS: It was aight... not too hard. A little time consuming, didnt have my usual luxury time but overall it was doable. I was kinda disappointed how little O.Chem there was 🙁. Overall it was a doable test... i dont think I did my avg but I dont think I did that bad either. Regardless I am grateful that its finally over.

This is just the beginning of the beginning, wait till step 1 comes around. Then you'll partially know what it takes to become a doctor 😉

Ya, after writing my initial review early afternoon and relaxing the rest of day, I realized it really wasn't all that bad.

I still think it's funny how I instinctively understood which passages are gonna be difficult.

For PS, it's the first passage. Knew I was in trouble the moment I glanced it. I had to skip 5 questions and had to come back later in the exam.

VR, it was the first 7 questions passage. Reading it, I knew that this is the type of passage I tend to struggle with. Of course, there had to be like two or three I, II, III choices questions - my worst nightmare.

For BS, I think we all know which passage I am talking about.

Still, I am glad that I was able to finish everything under the time and had some time to check over my answers. I think my main frustration is with those 3 PS question (I still remember them all too vividly). I squeezed every ounce of my brain but couldn't figure them out on time. For VR, I ended up giving extra 5 min on that passage, yet not much improvement was made. For BS, I am so glad there were so little Organic chem in it. I remember going through the whole thing for first 3 min, so psyched that most topics covered are what I am comfortable with.

The center opened 40 minutes late. So, ridiculous and awful. Plus, everyone started the test at different time and took break at different time.. Lacks professionalism and discipline. So much disturbance was created by people taking break at different times. I felt I was taking a test at some south side unprofessional school. What a waste of money?🙁

The test was okay. I agree it was PS then BS and then VR sequence in terms of challenge. There were some PS concepts that I didn't review and was tested on. Why do they make tests so so difficult? 🙁😡

I agree as someone said that it shouldn't take 30-40 days to get the test results especially since there is no essay section anymore.😱

Life sucks😡 !

Ya man, verbal gods came through 😛

I feel more or less the same. Not sure if I did as well as AAMCs but it felt good cleaning my desk piled up with MCAT books.

Looking at your ID, I am reminded that I haven't checked NBA for past 40 days. Knicks is still in the playoff spot? Oh man I have some catch ups to do 😛

Hope to see you guys in about a month, and will we know when the confirmed date of release will be?

So if I've been watching Knicks' games all season, I'm doomed on the 26th? Haha.

Congrats to all of you that took the test today!

Alright, time to give my two-cents about this exam:

PS: That first passage as has been mentioned, was like "really, you want us to start off with this?" That really set a negative tone. And then there were a few gchem Qs scattered that i knew the concepts of, but never had it presented THAT way....so I was thrown off there. Overall, doable section with the major curve-balls thrown in.
AAMC Avg: 13
Prediction - 10-11....12 if Scale is nice

V: I felt pretty okay through the first few passages, then the one with Max Qs RIGHT in middle threw me for a loop, then regained composure then the 2nd to last one was a time killer....but overall doable, like AAMCs, slightly harder
AAMC Avg: 10
Prediction: 9-10.....11 if Scale is nice

BS: This is by far usually my fallback, but I was just confused through 2.5/7 passages, like "why are you asking me this?" It made me feel like no matter how much preparation I did for this section, it would have turned out the same way.....also like someone else mentioned, I LSAT-ed some of those questions...Finally, the test basically took basic, basic concepts and convoluted them up....and it only tested on like a Few topics...naturally the ones I am weak in..So I do not necessarily concur that it was "Doable"....I felt it was highly deceptive in its "ease".....already know I got like 5-6 wrong so great.......
AAMC Avg: 13
Prediction: 10-11.....12 if Scale is UBER nice

AAMC Avg Composite Avg = 36
Predicted: 29 - 34

You can practically say the same thing for most if not all MCAT tests...They wont give the mass and acceleration and ask you for the force...That is why I hate the MCAT.

First time posting so here it goes. Physics was ok like any other AAMC exam, but those discrete made me wish I study that stuff. Verbal has been scaring me as soon as I finished it because I never know if I got the question right. I don't know how, but I calmed down before biology and did it normally like any other AAMC exam. This one month waiting is going suck.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was more than one exam offered each testing day.

I swear I dreamt of like 4 or 5 mcat questions last night that I had forgotten about yesterday. Lol sooo weird, now I think I got like a 28. So my AAMC average was a 35. I'm predicting anywhere from 28-37, this test is impossible to predict.

Oh ya and the AAMC website says may 7th we get scores, so 33 days to grade a test that can easily be graded instantaneously.

I edited my post haha I think it was too specific!
But I thought the exam was exactly what I expected as far as difficulty. BS was "harder" than usual, but nothing crazy ridiculous, and I thought PS was easier to compensate.
I also think it's strange how many said they got discouraged by passage 1 on PS (I have no clue what it even was LOL), but I never do the questions in order. I always do discreets first, so I guess I didn't have that problem thankfully! I'm definitely not excited to wait a month though. Good luck to all!

We are receiving numerous complaints from the AAMC about exam information being shared in this thread. We will be reviewing these reports according to our usual policy. In the mean time, please follow the nondisclosure agreement you signed when you took the test and DO NOT post specifics about the MCAT.

As a reminder, here is a link to a post with a warning from the AAMC's attourneys on this matter: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showpost.php?p=10124139&postcount=3

I agree that there have been some way too specific posts on here. lol I enjoy reading opinions, but it's too tempting to talk about specifics! Be careful, y'all. lol

Haha The Knicks are doing very well right now (knock on wood). Going for there 11th game in a row. 2nd place in the conference next to Heat.

Life is so goooood now this test is out of the way. I played bball like a new "Free" man last night. Cheers to everyone who took that test yesterday!!

I'm surprised the AAMC reads the forums... interesting.

I read the thread and I don't think it's going to do much to help me on my MCAT other than remind me that if the 1st PS passage is hard... skip it. Discrete aren't always easy.
And, the 2015 MCAT is going to suck.

I feel if you know someone that took the MCAT, you'd likely be getting the same knowledge.

So if I've been watching Knicks' games all season, I'm doomed on the 26th? Haha.

Congrats to all of you that took the test today!

Knicks fan? Nice. I was so giddy when i found out knickerbockers are in the second place 🙂 Boston and Houston are also in, which means all my favorite teams made it!! woot woot

No u will be fine haha actually keep watching so they can keep on winning. I on the other hand might have to skip the whole thing since my absence seems to help 😛

Oh man i just read ur comment. I was so happy last night looking at the conference standing. I had to cover my urge to not click nba.com for so long it was unbelievable. I am thinking maybe i should just not watch this season at all. Who knows maybe Lebron will get injured or something and melo man will start dropping 40s every game 🙄

Diehard Knicks' fan haha. But who will study for me if I keep watching? :/ lmao
I'm so happy my test is late April. Last year, mine was in June and I didn't really get to enjoy the playoffs or finals with the test weighing down on me. Then again, I'm feeling a little too relaxed (at least I think so) this time around.
