Hey all... I was just accepted today to the IMS program! YAY! Anyways I have a couple of questions for all those who are accepted and starting there in like two weeks, eek!

1) Is anyone bringing a car? I own a car, but coming from california, it would be a pain to get it there and I don't know if I need it? Is it like new york city were a car is a burdern more than a help? What did all of you guys decide?

2) Stiles, anyone living there? Coming from cal it would be really hard to find an off campus apartment and everything, so i think I am going to live there.

3) Anything you want to add as a word of caution or just advice for other IMSers...
Lastly congratulations to all, I can't believe we start in literrally a couple of weeks, but I couldnt' be more excited.

Hey gh, ya I did! I am very excited... Well I just graduate from UC Irvine, so I have been living in Irvine for the past couple of years, but I am currently up in Northern CA, I stayed with my fam for a month or so, and now I am moving out to Philly! But ya I dont know about the car thing. When I visited New York I knew i wouldnt' want to have a car there but I don't know about Philadelphia...

Anyone can share there moving stories, or what they are doing to prepare to move... Lets hear it from IMSers... 🙂

Hey guys! I'e getting ready to move up there next Friday (we are driving from Houston though, so it's going to take three days). When I visited Philly I did not like the part of town that Stiles was in (I'm a female, so security is a big issue to me). Unfortunately though, rent in Philly for a decent place is UNBELIEVABLE (and like you said, most places don't have openings for 8/1). So, I had to bite my tongue and take a more expensive apartment, but it's in a nice part of town (Washington Sq) and is a really nice place. If you do decide to bring a car, parking is real expensive as well, and not always very safe, so try and find an apt with covered parking. If you can fork over the money, I know my complex still has apartments available, PM me and I'll give you more details. I'm really excited about this program, and everyone I have talked to so far seems wonderful, so I'll see you guys in a few short weeks!

hmm... i am still waiting for my acceptance packet to arrive.
but are you serious about school beginning next week?

shoot... i just got accepted yesterday and i was just looking to book plane tix for the orientation. if schools starts right after that, i guess i'll have to make my entire move next week.

and i have to find housing. apparently campus housing is full right now, so i need to find a place to live. would any of you be interested in finding a 2bdrm apt with me?

ah well.. now i know the schedule because i looked at the academic calendar.

i think i'll just take a duffel bag of clothing and music with me to philly around orientation time and look for housing somehow.

i'm not going to worry about a car... i'm sure i can get by using public transportation.

I replied to your PM before I read your post, that is crazy about on campus housing, Are you sure that Stiles hall is full?? It seemd like they had tons of openings as of last week, I didn't apply for there until Thursday of Last week because that is when I found out I was accepted...

Also that is a wierd coincidence about irvine and norcal, where did you go to school in Nor cal? I loved Irvine, kinda miss it, just a really nice area, anyways talk to you soon! If you want my E-mail address just PM me, might be quicker...

Congrats to everyone else and I can't wait to start orientation in just over a week!

right now there are 12 people on the campus housing waiting list. i think a lot of people were accepted recently.

Well in NorCal I was from Redding, CA.... I don't know if you even know where that is... it is about three hours north of Berkeley... I can't believe about the wait list... Dang...

For those IMSers that are wondering about when classes start, follow the IFM-year one calender. 8/1 registration, orientation and classes begin 8/8.

You do not need a car at all in IMS or MSP. The only problem you would run into is groceries. There is a Whole Foods within walking distance but not many other grocery stores extremely close to the Stiles or the Hanheman. Almost all the people live in Stiles, a few live in apts nearby but they are usually very expensive.
