Pre-Allo has a thread of this nature most semesters, and it has helped me in the past achieve the elusive 4.0. Allo or Osteo, we all need good grades.

The point of this thread is to post your schedule, reflect on your goals and hopefully maintain motivation to achieve said goals. Keep us updated on how your grades look after tests, quizzes, midterms etc. If your goal isn't a 4.0, you're doing it wrong 😛. Anybody can make A's if the effort is right.

DocFelt's Fall 2012 schedule:

Medical Terminology: 3 hrs
Electrophysics: 3 hours
Biochemistry: 3 hours
Chemistry Lab: 1 Hour
Human Anatomy: 4 hours
General Chemistry: 3 hours
------------------------------------------

17 hours total. +25 hours/week for work (Medical Assistant) +15 hours/week mcat studying.

Expected GPA: 4.0

Gon' be a busy one, folks. 😳

I like this idea!

My schedule this semester:

College Algebra - 3 cr
Modern World History - 3cr
Political Economy - 3cr
General Chemistry - 4cr
Individual, Society + Culture - 3cr (late add on, but may drop)
______________________________________

Total credits this semester: 13-16
+ 40 hours a week working at State Virology Laboratory
+ 5 hours a week volunteering at local animal shelter

Goal GPA: 4.0 (Ultimate goal: making the Chancellor's List)

Let's do this.

My schedule:

Quantitative Analysis + Lab - 4 credits
Human Anatomy + Lab - 4 credits
Systems Physiology (med school class) - 4 credits
Medical Microbiology - 3 credits
Total = 15 credits
Goal = 4.0 GPA

This will be my hardest undergrad semester, but I also expect it to be the most interesting and relevant (aside from Quant :ninja:). Good luck to everyone else shooting for 4.0's - we can do it!

Good luck, man. Your schedule looks nuts. 😉

Microbial Physiology-4
Immunology-4
Environmental Health-2
Food Microbiology-3

13 credits (purposely took it easy because of interviews and missing class this fall. Also I'm expecting my first child any day now so it'll be a HUGE adjustment... plus working 34 hours a week)

Expected GPA? 4.0 baby!

Sure I'll play. Probably the lightest school schedule of everyone though.

Biology 1 + lab (retake)
College Algebra

40 hour working
10-15 hours doing SI
5 hours volunteering

Thought about taking more classes, but I'm trying to save money plus have more flexibility for interviews.

Expected GPA? 4.0 🙂

GTFO with yer med school business!

Do the credits correlate with undergrad? Like, for instance, will you be stuck in biochem lecture for 7 hours per week?

It might be worse. I'm taking a 6 credit Biochemistry course through an SMP and I meet M/W/R for 2 hours per day and once on Friday for an hour and a half. So that's 7.5 hours right there of straight class time. My physiology and histology classes also go over.

Can I join this competition even though I'm in an SMP? I'm still pre-Allo/pre-Osteo lol.

GMS AN722 A1 Cell Org Tissue 4.0
GMS BI751 A1 Biochem/Cell B 6.0
GMS MS971 A1 Rel MED Sci 2.0
GMS PH730 A1 Human Physio A 4.0
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total: 16 hours

Goal: Get a 4.0 and get into a an MD or DO school next year.

Fall 2012

Physics 1 with Lab
Ochem 1
Human Anatomy with Lab
12 hours volunteering a week

Kinda scared for physics 😕

but regardless, expected GPA: 4.0

Expected GPA: 4.0

(If I get an A in BioChem the moon will explode.)

You're not working at all with that class schedule? What are you, lazy?

You're not working at all with that class schedule? What are you, lazy?

Your mother pays me every friday night but I don't consider that "work." 😉

TheEMP's Fall Schedule 2012

Human Genetics 3 Units
Human Genetics Lab 1 Unit
Neurophysiology 3 Units
Neurophysiology Lab 1 Unit
Principles of Biochemistry 3 Units
English Composition II 3 Units
------------
14 Units

Tutoring OChem I/II as well

Expected GPA: 3.9999

Immunology 3.0
Microbiology 3.0
Genetics 3.0
Animal Physiology 3.0

Expected GPA: 4.0, no probs.

Twelve hours is the max they allow us post-bacs. Add to that 32 hr/week of work and interviews (one scheduled already!) and it should be a fun time. Not too much, but I definitely won't get bored.

Ooo I'll play! Lets do this. Super excited for this semester!

Biology of Social Behavior: 3 hours
Human Physiology: 3 hours
Cell Biology: 3 hours
English 1 (voiding my AP credits to get more GPA boosting): 3 hours
Independent Study for research in behavioral genetics lab: 3 hours. Have to spend ~~ 20 hours in lab per week.

Really going for a 4.0 but I'll be ok with a 3.999. 🙂
--
Working part time, 15 hours per week
Volunteering 5 hours per week at a hospital.
Studying for MCAT/Retaking Kaplan course - 10 hours per week.

So I wish to expand a little further on my scheduled classes:

Medical Terminology: Easy A
Electrophysics: Very Challenging A
Biochemistry: Very Challenging A
Chemistry Lab: Somewhat Challenging A
Human Anatomy: Reasonable, but time consuming A
General Chemistry: Easy A

So anyway, I've got a lot of difficulty and variation within my schedule. Typically when I have a full load, >50% are easy A's. This time, only 35% are easy, and there are two VERY challenging classes. My physics class is well known for having 5% of its students get an A.

Well, my work is cut out for me. Luckily every single class (sans med term) can be applied directly to mcat material, so I may save time studying for that. I got a 4.0 last semester, and would really like to end my undergrad on a streak of 4.0's.

hahah ya'll are gonna hate me

Ecology 3 cr.
Public Speaking 3 cr.
Creative Writing 3 cr.
Language and Gender 3 cr.
Reading and Writing about Texts 3 cr.
Cultural Anthro 3 cr.

18 credits
expected GPA: 4.0

GTFO with yer med school business!

Do the credits correlate with undergrad? Like, for instance, will you be stuck in biochem lecture for 7 hours per week?

It's not necessarily 1-to-1. This week was 10 hours of histology lecture and 6 hours of biochem, 1 hour of psych.

Also got my first exam results, 96% booom. I'm off to a good start 😀

Volunteer at my kid's pre-school = 3hrs/week
MCAT studying (for January retake) = 15-20hrs/week (mostly verbal🙁)

Total = 76-81hrs/week (so, I think I may exceed the 80-hour rule of medical residents )

I see you're a fellow microbiology major 🙂 good luck. 👍

can't wait to take immunology next semester, too bad it didnt fit in my schedule this one...

Im taking such a crazy course load....4 credits. Hahaha getting one A shouldnt be very difficult.

I'll be taking 16 hours (possibly 18) and I'm going to work my butt off for a 4.0 this semester - it would finally push me over the 2.9 into the 3.0-3.1 range, I'd be soooo thankful.

My lowest GPA point in college was when it hit a 2.8 I believe, and it took a whole year to come back from that because I made a few Cs along the way. I spent the first 3 years of my college pretty lost, just going through the system, not really caring about grades - just trying to get whatever degree and get out. Ever since I finally followed what I actually wanted to do since my freshman year I've been more motivated than ever. I study more and pay attention in class - feels great!

Good luck everyone 🙂

Yup, microscopic organisms own my life right now 🙄 I'm excited for immunology, but the class I'm looking forward to the most is Tropical Diseases in the spring. Super interesting class according to all my classmates. Good luck with your up and coming semester!

orgo 1 lecture
bio 2 lecture/lab
working crazy hours (fall season for an Athletic Trainer is hectic to say the least)
TRY to fit in some shadowing and volunteering
Take my baby girl (she's 5) to the local Renaissance Festival!

I like the confidence that a lot of people are showing here but to expect
a 4.0 gpa when a semester hasn't even started sounds cocky.

I have been in college of 2.5 years and have a 4.0 so far. I never started a semester EXPECTING a 4.0 GPA. In fact I always thought that I would never finish with a 4.0 at the end.

What's wrong with being optimistic and having goals?

Biology 1 (with Lab) 4 hours
Chemistry 1 (with lab) 4 hours
English 2 3 hours

ICU RN working 42 hrs/week (nights weekends)
An hoping to start some volunteering at Boys & Girls Club tutoring.

Have to achieve a 4.0 .

Just wanted to say I love the Randy Pausch quote! I've read the Last Lecture many times. Good luck this semester 🙂

Congrats on your gpa.

You and I have very different outlooks, I guess. I expect a 4.0 no questions asked. Anything below a 4.0 is a failure on my part on some level.

Neither of our opinions are wrong. 👍

Anyway, I actually started classes last week. Anybody else get started already?

"If you ain't first, you're last."

And, nope. I don't start until the 28th.🙂

BTW. Fall schedule:

BIO 1 w/ lab- 5 cr.
CHEM 1 w/ lab- 5 cr.
ENG Comp - 3 cr.

If I can't get a 4.0 with that, I'm doing something wrong.

So expecting a 4.0 GPA sounds cocky but this doesn't?

Developmental Neurobiology - 3
Cellular Neuroscience - 3
Neuroanatomy - 3
German 1 - 3
Ochem 1 lab only - 1
Ochem 2 w/ lab - 4
Neuroscience Research - 3
Neuroscience TA - 3

23 credits

The last 2 are on a credit/non-credit basis which is good.

Has nothing to do with being cocky. It just takes hard work which everyone is putting forth. Honestly it's not that hard to get a 4.0 throughout your whole college career if taking a reasonable amount of classes each semester

This and if you do your research choosing professors via ratemyprofessors or by talking to students who've previously taken and aced the professor's class-- their experience is invaluable in itself.

It really comes down to management of your resources (time being the key one).

Goal 4.0

Why are you taking so many credits in one term? That seems very illogical.

My program screwed up my credit count so to graduate on time I have to (I am taking 21 fall and 17 spring) I have taken heavy course loads before and I honestly don't count the Spanish class, I have a solid backround so it will be a joke) so really it is like taking 17 credits...not bad at all. Plus I have been in school full time for my kids whole lives so they are used to me having to study all the time

I'm a first semester grad student. Hoping for a 4.0 all of grad school!

Developmental Biology (3)
Bioinformatics (3)
Statistical Inference I (4) :scared:
Science and Ethics (3)
Research (2)

Boom kids, 100% on my first biochem exam 🙂 4.0 here i come

Class schedule has changed.

Instead of Human Anatomy, I will be taking Human Physiology 🙂

Organic Chemistry 1
Physics 1 with Lab
Human Physiology with Lab

12 units + volunteering at 2 hospitals

Lets go 4.0!

Class average was a 90% though so I don't know if that means the test was easy or we're all super awesome 😳

Either way, it's about to get a lot more difficult from here :scared:

First two exams next week: Chem and Med Term. If I get under 98% for either of them it will be a horrible disappointment.

Already done with two weeks of class. 😱

**** flies when you're busy. I start MCAT prep again tomorrow, so it's only going to get much tighter. 🙄

Thanks broski.

I've gotta say, it's quite satisfying to see you straight tearing **** up in med school. I had followed you a little bit during your app process.

/Stalking 👍
