Hey so I know LECOM will be accepting ACT/SAT scores instead of MCAT scores or if you don't have one they use MCAT. Is there anyway you can make sure they don't get the MCAT score since my first one was bad. I think on the secondary right or would they automatically see my bad MCAT score because of the accomas application.

You should move this question to the LECOM 2015-2016 thread. You are applying to medical school...your MCAT is what is important. Why would you not have an ACT/SAT score but have an MCAT score? The ACT/SAT is included on secondaries just for statistical information (as specified on most secondaries, which is why it is usually optional). All of your MCAT scores are reported when you send them to AACOMAS. You can't pick and choose which scores to send.

You won't be able to hide your MCAT score. You really want to take that chance that LECOM accepts your SAT/ACT when everyone else has taken the MCAT?

I know some schools that take the SAT/ACT instead of the MCAT due to extenuating circumstances (those who apply as a BA/MD program) or direct medical school program for undergraduates who have NOT graduated college yet. When you graduate college before matriculating medical school, you're expected to take the MCAT in order to go to medical school.

Also, according to my LECOM portal, they require MCAT scores as an entrance requirement.

I've talked to the dean of the admissions. Because that's the only school I wanted to go to. On the application I put the id for the mcat, but don't you still have to send it from the mcat score website to electronically send them in somehow. Or does it automatically go once you put the id in on aacomas.

Yes, you have to send your scores electronically from the MCAT score website to AACOMAS. Any school you apply to will receive your AACOMAS application and therefore get your MCAT score. All medical schools in the US require the MCAT and they will see all of your scores, you can't hide any. I think the only reason a school wouldn't require the MCAT was if you were in some sort of joint program.

Look, not having an MCAT score would be a huge red flag, even if it isn't required. LECOM most likely will not accept you without an MCAT score, unless you have extenuating circumstances. Also, if you're worried about your MCAT score, how are you going to accomplish passing boards? Why should LECOM accept you when everyone else has taken the MCAT and done decently well? Do you have a compelling story?

Schools don't like when you start trying to hide things, especially if they find out you've taken the MCAT and tried to hide it from AACOMAS. Don't expect an interview invite from LECOM for not having your MCAT score in.
 
No, I am going to take the MCAT. But I would rather get my secondary going, then wait. I met the dean of admissions and he said they would use my act score and then I would just take it after the interview to matriculate.

So you already have an interview invite? What are your stats?

You can always submit everything you have to these schools. Whether they decide to interview you or offer you an acceptance is up to them.

This is what LECOM says about MCAT:
"Your file will not be rejected if your MCAT score has not been reported or if your MCAT is planned for a later date. We will place your application on hold until this requirement is complete. If you have an MCAT score that meets our minimum requirement at the time of application your file will be sent to the admissions committee for review."

It looks like you need to have an MCAT before your interview.

This may be a dumb question, but what does "Lizzy M - 60-65" mean exactly?

Its a way of determining someone's academic competitiveness.

The formula is gpa*10 + MCAT score. So lets say your MCAT is a 26 and your gpa is a 3.5. You multiply the 3.5 by 10 so you get 35. You add the 35 to the 26 so you get 61. So with those stats your LizzyM would be a 61.

You need around a 67 LizzyM to be a borderline candidate for low tier MD schools. I think being 58+ means you have a decent shot at low tier DO schools.

Why can't we put an actual LizzyM score in this thread? Why does it have to be a range? Are people so nervous that someone at a medical school might maybe find out who they are on SDN? Ranges don't really tell us much 60-65 is a pretty big range for this specific metric. My LizzyM score is a 61. See, I said it. I'm not afraid! 🙂🙂

hey everyone, don't know if this is the right thread to put this on, but I am going out of the country for three months (October -December) and I was wondering if this is something that I should let schools know in terms of interviewing purposes. My app should be complete end of July/beginning of August. Would it be appropriate to let them know this info, so that I can hopefully get interviews August-beginning/middle of October?

Impossible. You're going to need to travel back and forth for the interview. Just because you're leaving the country doesn't give you an advantage over anyone else. Why should they look at your app first when others have submitted way earlier than you? Forcing a school to interview you earlier is just going to get you in the reject pile.

When you do get an interview invite, you can ask them to schedule you when you come back, or you decide to interview during those months you are gone.

Of course I understand that I don't have an advantage, I didn't mean to make it sound that way. People who submit earlier deserve to interview earlier. Thanks for the reply!
