Official Loyola Entering Class of 2005 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I heard that orientation week consists of activities at Stritch and getting to know the school and hospital. One night the first years will go to a local ale house. There will be a night when we go either to a Cubs or Sox game. My roommate also said the M2s throw a get-together for us and we get to plan an activity for ourselves. It's 4-5 days of activities so these are just some of them probably.

I'm traveling throughout Mongolia for 3 weeks and visiting a buddy in South Korea afterwards for a few days. Hoping to start school disease-free 🙂 Have a good Memorial Day weekend!

Hey all! I'm not planning on actually moving out there until just a few days before orientation. I still haven't picked my lender either, yeesh. It's so cool to hear from people that are travelling to cool places, though. I'm leaving in a week and a half to go to East Timor for a month and I'll be back about two weeks before orientation.

I know what you mean about the vaccinations too. I had to get hep a, hep b, rabies, yellow fever, japanese encephalaitis, and on and on and on. I got the malaria prophylaxis too... doxycyclin every day (lots of chloroquinine resistance in S.E. Asia). Stuff made me photosensitive while on a pacific island too... yeesh.

Take it easy, enjoy the first half of summer, and I'll see you in a few weeks!

Is anyone else having trouble getting on the incoming student web forum? I haven't been able to get on it for the past two days and am trying to find a roomate! PM if you're going to be looking for apartments soon and need a roomate.

As someone in class of 08 at loyola, trust me, the webforum "comes and goes". sometimes they just randomly stop working. It's frustrating (we use them for M1 and M2 classes). I believe it's working again today. Just keep trying.

also try getting on the webforum from a different computer. we have 2 computers at my house (using the same internet connection) and one of them has never worked well (slow load and/or doesn't work at all) while the other computer has worked nearly every time at a speed similar to what everything else online loads at....

The forum seems to be working now. Thanks!

bumping for sacrificial movement by the EvoDevo!

haha that's crazy that this thread is now in the allopathic...i don't feel like i belong there yet =P
Now the real question is whether you've made the switch to telling people you're a med student rather than a pre-med student. I mean, we're accepted, we're going to Loyola for sure, we're done with all of the pre-med nonsense, last year's M4s have graduated, shouldn't we be able to call ourselves M1s? I certainly have made the switch. I guess we could be limbo-med students... we're certainly not pre-meds but we haven't actually enrolled yet. hmmm... I'm just going to stick with med student. It sounds so much cooler.

Does anyone know if there has been much movement off the waitlist in the past week or so?

i've been in that limbo stage for a year, since i graduated a year ago...it's been 'applying to medschool' more than 'premed' since my coursework was done. but now its 'waiting to start medschool' until i'm actually there. i could call myself a medstudent now probably, but i don't feel like a student yet. when i spend a day out waterskiing on a friday, i just can't say i'm a student yet....or at least am happy to not be a student yet...

Wow folks I cannot believe your giving that much thought into what you should be classified as "A med-Student" "A premed student" "or a narcissus" is the only reason you worry about this is so you can tell others.

I understand how hard it is to get into school and all of us should be proud of our achievement, but lets get over ourselves.

Hi,

I just accepted the offer today. Anybody looking for a roommate to live in Oak Park or Forest Park. I want to live near other students.

Let me know.

Just got the offer today that I wil 99.99% be accepting. 👍

I'm not sure this is the right place for this post, but i figured the info here would be better than from the pre-med forum. I'm in undergrad at Loyola New Orleans, but i'm an Alabama resident. I just recently started hearing a/b Stritch and it sounds like a great place where the faculty actually give a $hit. Anyway, I know they have a lot of in-staters and was wondering if being from Bama would hurt me or help me (the whole Jesuit diversity thing). I'm really interested, MCAT 30Q, GPA 3.85ish. also, do they stress clinical experience b/c i have about zilch.

Anyone out there holding an acceptance to loyola and planning on not going?

Hey all! Only 4 days to orientation!!! I suspect our class is mostly in the area or currently in the move. If anyone out there wants to hang out this weekend send me a PM and we can get in touch. I'm new to the area so I'd love to meet anyone else that's coming in from far away!

In any event, I'll see you on Monday!

Mike
