For those of us taking the MCAT in 2015 let's address each others concerns here, and bounce ideas off each other.

I have not yet decided if I will take the MCAT in 2014 or 2015. I'm thinking probably 2015 because I need a while to get my grades WAY up. I currently have a 2.5 however I'm taking 5 classes this semester with A's in them all so that should help immensly. I failed Calc II which did horrible things to my once stellar (but at the time simply mediocre) GPA.

What MCAT study materials have you purchased so far? I have the Gold Standard MCAT review book that was published last year. 🙂

I would put it off until 2015 so you can focus on your classes, so you can bring your gpa up. Your in the same boat as me, I'm taking it after my senior year.. As far as prep materials go I have just been reading my core books because I haven't even taken o Chem yet

I havn't taken o chem either. I've taken general chem I and II, general bio I and II, and am currently taking physics I. I'm considering taking summer classes so that I don't fall behind. I really want to graduate with a four year degree in... four years but I would much rather take more time and get a higher GPA. I'm hoping to end up with a 3.8. 😀

If I finish my pre--reqs by 2014, then I might take it before 2015. Only thing is if you screw up, then you will have to restudy for the new mcat

Exactly. That's why I'm probably going to wait until 2015. I'm not going to hurt myself by waiting the extra year. I could definetly hurt myself if I take it too soon.

At this point, the thing I'm most worried about is money. I've worked FT the entire time I've been in school, next semester will be the first time I've taken a loan out so that I won't need to work. But I don't know how I'm going to get by without working or being in school so that I can concentrate only on the MCAT. And yet... it has to be done.

Freshman here...I'm going to be finished with nearly all my pre reqs by the end of sophomore year (will have taken Chemistry I+II, Physics I+II, Biology+Cell/molecular biology, Organic Chem I+II, and 1 semester of English). I also will take physiology and either genetics or biochem next year.

Therefore, is it adviseable to take the MCAT in 2014, either at the end of sophomore year or over the summer? I will have a heavy first semester sophomore year but my second semester wont be as heavy.... Is there any point in waiting and I should just study for the MCAT my second semester and beginning of summer and take the old MCAT in August or September?

I'd say take it in 2014 before the test changes. You will have all of your pre-reqs completed so there's no reason not to. Just make sure that you leave yourself an ample amount of time to study. Regardless of how light your workload is for the spring semester, you're going to burnout if your dedicating enought time to your classes AND MCAT studying. So wait and take it at the end of the Summer so that you have had enough time to prepare. Good luck😀
